The school is awful. All the majors there are terrible, it is the lowest of the low, and at the bottom of its pathetic tier. My cousin went there as a chemistry major for undergrad and grad; now he's works at Rite Aid making 40,000 dollars a year, how pitiful is that? Carnegie Mellon University is the home of ugly women, terrible education, and overly-priced tuition, arguably the worst university of its kind in the US. My cousin's 6 years in CMU have been the worst that he ever experienced, don't make the same mistake and go to this deplorable institution.

Wow, you can make $40k a year at Rite Aid? Most of the teachers in my school district don’t even make that much, haha…

In retrospect, yes making 40,000 dollars a year is not that bad (can buy a french fry or two at McDonalds after taxes haha); but for a guy who dished out over 100k to go to a purportedly “top tier school”… now that’s downright miserable.

Have you been waitlisted, perhaps? :-)

Nope. I had originally wanted to apply but my uncle stopped me, saying that the worst years of my cousin’s life occurred at CMU. I applied to much worthier universities and was admitted to most of them. CMU doesn’t even deserve the attention of top-tier applicants.

…it’s not the school but what a student makes out of his/her experience at the university. i know several people who went/are attending CMU and are having the time of their lives. with a very much successful and enjoyable college experience so far…just my thought…

This thread is clearly designed with harassment in mind and to provoke hard feelings. As such, I’ve reported it.

EDIT: Haha, imbri, great minds think alike! Best thing you guys can do is hit the report button as well and fill out a harassment report for the moderators. They should see this and will likely amend the situation soon. :)

This guy has a total of 3 posts, all of which have been this thread- don’t feed the ■■■■■, people.

[edit: I see I cross posted with completelykate, sorry]

My posts showed no signs of offensiveness nor did I have the intention to provoke hard feelings. I was merely attempting to enlighten the CC population on CMU’s many faults and that you can have a miserable time there become a failure at life, like my cousin. CMU is way too over-hyped. Also, just because I have 4 posts I was identified as a “■■■■■”, typical CMU pretentiousness, that’s why it is full of aristocratic progeny who got rejected from top tier ivies.

You suck at ■■■■■■■■. Go work at Rite Aid.

completelykate, from what basis do you think I am a ■■■■■. Merely relaying the tragic life story of my cousin is considered ■■■■■■■■? And also most of you (except for bp17033), didn’t get the fact that my cousin worked as a pharmacist in Rite Aid, not as a cashier.

*bp17033, thanks for being my only support in this thread, you seem like a nice and intelligent person.

bp’s posts also point to consistent ■■■■■■■■ threads-- and not even good ones. He likes the phrase “bottom of the pot” an awful lot. You guys are a real tag team. Maybe you can wine and dine each other after this is locked :)

“it’s not the school but what a student makes out of his/her experience at the university” I agree with Gashergina.

Secondly… If you’re cousin (if he really exists) hated CMU soo much why’d he bother to do both his undergrad and post grad degree there? It makes no sense. Couldn’t he have left after his undergrad? You’re making this crap up aren’t you?

And you’re posts showed no signs of offensiveness? What are you, blind? Go find another school to belittle.

It’s not the school that makes your success, it’s your hard work. Why, there are even people from Harvard making $30,000 upon graduation because they didn’t care to put forth much effort.

Did he have any idea that his degree from cmu would be worthless? No. Ceratainly he did not enjoy the experience but he, like many of people here, believed that a cmu education would help him find a job and secure a stable career for the future. Sadly that didn’t happen and now he struggles to pay off his loans.

I certainly am not blind. As a matter of fact that statement was more insulting than anything I have stated.

I am merely sharing a personal anecdote about this school. Nowhere do I personally attack another ccer like you have just done.

Interesting that you are all accusing me of ■■■■■■■■ for telling a family experience with cmu chem program yet there’s no accusations of ■■■■■■ when people post positive personal experiences with cmu.

I guess ccers are not allowed to learn about the negatives of cmu.

And in response to those who are saying that the student effort matters more than the school. I agree with this statement. My cousin definetly worked hard during his years at cmu. He is not a slouch and tries his best all the time. He understood that he would be in debt after graduation so was determined to do well and get a good job and career after graduation.

^Sorry about your cousin =( Hope things work out for him someday.

Haha, have heard things about the girls at Carnegie, but there are all levels of pretty at every college/university. It sounds kind of mean to judge, so I’ll stop talking about it…(am a girl, btw, and am thinking about going, so a bit biased) …And it IS really expensive =P but, again, so are A LOT schools (Congrats to anyone who gets nice scholarships/aid/etc.).

All I know is, the people I know personally who go there dig the school and the alumna I interviewed with was over the moon about her education and her job. I’m kind of excited about attending (although I still have to decide if Carnegie’s my final choice…). Btw, does anyone know about the how the job outlook is for students who graduate from the architecture program?? I’m probably going to be broke anyway based on the major/career I picked, but I’m ok with that (I think). The arch program at CMU sounds amazing though!

Aww Someone got rejected…

"I guess ccers are not allowed to learn about the negatives of cmu. "

I’ll flat out say it Carnegie Mellon has a horrible Pharmacy program thats not worth the money. Which makes me wonder…why would your cousin go to Carnegie Mellon for a 6 year Pharmacy program when he could go to Pitt’s Pharmacy School and get a better education. Didn’t he realize he would accumulate a lot less debt and probably make more money??? I know for a FACT that Rite Aid has a base salary for Pharmacists that is no where close to 40k. The only way your cousin makes only 40,000 is because he probably works part time…

I have several friends and family members who started out in pharmaceuticals, making well above 40k-- not at rite aid, but at comparable chains like CVS. This is a little fishy to me.

Furthermore, how was your post NOT intentionally offensive? Here are your exact words:

The school is awful. (Since many of our programs are top five, this is just a plain lie.)

All the majors there are terrible. (Again, this is the exact same as your first statement, and it’s utterly untrue.)

it is the lowest of the low, and at the bottom of its pathetic tier. (If by ‘pathetic’ you mean ‘best ranked in the world,’ then sure.)

Many thousands of kids have graduated from CMU, and their averaged first salary across all majors-- even the humanities majors, like history-- is higher than 50,000. This points more to the indication that your cousin fails at having a real career more than that the school fails at turning out good graduates.

If you’re going to pass some criticism, why not accept some in return? Tell us where YOU go. I’m sure we can find one person who had a ****ty time there. ;)

Your circular logic is akin to reasoning that “because one cheerio in the box came out misshapen, all cheerios everywhere must also come out badly misshapen, and the cheerio company must be awful at cereal production.” For someone who professes to attend an institution of higher learning with more self-assessed caliber than CMU, you wouldn’t even pass a basic argument course.

Wait, CMU has a pharmacy program? Because I’m pretty sure we’d just make them program a pill dispenser to carry out their jobs…
