I am doing this now before decisions come about as, if I am rejected, I would not bother to do it after. But, I think that it is interesting to note what happens to people who have 2nd or late interviews with alumni. Let us call an interview 'late,' if it happened after March the 10th, or if they said that the interview was coming after a "preliminary reading" of your application.

Things to include:

International or US resident.
Second or late interview, and when it was.
Reason for interview (If not given, just a brief outline of what was asked).
Who interviewed you, and whether they had read you application.
Anything else you feel that is pertinent (I am sure that I have forgotten something; a little stressed at the moment:))

And of course; decision.

Thank-you all, and I hope to hear about lots of acceptances.

Well, I got a second interview. I got in :)

Also in at Yale, Pton, so some tough decisions ahead…

EDIT: Oh yeah, the questions. Ok well…

International or US resident: International
Second or late interview, and when it was: Second interview, March 15ish?
Reason for interview (If not given, just a brief outline of what was asked): That my first interview didn’t provide enough details on my background.
Who interviewed you, and whether they had read you application: The head of interviews from my country, no they didn’t read my application, but they did read my previous interview report.
Anything else you feel that is pertinent: *I truly think that the interview was largely to get some more insight into my background, which I wrote about in my essays. *

Waitlisted. Not too sad though, in at Cornell which is fine by me.

International
Late interview (about 13th of March)
They had some questions about some of the things in me application, things about my background and life.
interviewed by a lady that was part of the admissions committees who had read my app

I had a second interview. My first one was more structured and was based on my academics, my second one was mainly about my love of reading and my interests and occured in late feb and he was wanting to do it the next day. I did it the next monday. US

International or US resident: US
Second or late interview, and when it was: Second interview, very late february
Reason for interview (If not given, just a brief outline of what was asked): didnt specify, asked questions like any other interview
Who interviewed you, and whether they had read you application: the admissions officer for my school, and yes they had read my application
Anything else you feel that is pertinent: me and my friend were the only ones of 15ish applicants from my school to get a 2nd interview, i was admitted and he was waitlisted. i think that they were on the fence with us and 2nd interview may have been the deciding factor since no one else from my school got in or got waitlisted

I got a late interview and was waitlisted. The regional officer told me it was just to get to know me a bit better. The first one was more like a conversation while the second was more structured and had some hard to answer questions. One person from my school got in and I got the wItlist, so I am hoping that since they are declining the offer that I’ll get in eventually.

I had a second interview in early March by my region’s alumni coordinator. He said that Harvard asked him to interview students in his region that had fit into the top 10% of all applicants to Harvard. Incidentally, I already knew my interviewer through orchestra. There were at least 3-4 people at my school who applied to Harvard, and only two were invited back for the second interview. The other applicant got waitlisted and I got in.

I guess second interviews are for places where it’s tough to determine who to accept and who to reject. Interviewers like to get a really solid idea of students’ backgrounds, and in my case, my second interview might have done it for me.

US resident
Second interview, early March
Second interviews were conducted of all Harvard applicants in top 10%.
Regional alumni coordinator. Yes, he read my application and asked me a bunch of questions about my essays.
HARVARD 2014!

Though in my first interview I said something about how Harvard wasn’t my top choice and I wouldn’t jump at the opportunity of going there. I’m really not sure how I got in. I did mention that I would use a fair evaluative system to decide if I would go there, and that I didn’t care at all about the prestige. Maybe that’s why.

So I think what we’ve learned is that second interviews do not equal acceptances. And no second interviews do not equal rejections.

Most applicants – whether eventually rejected or accepted – do not get second interviews. It’s enough trouble trying to find enough alum to provide first interview.

I had two interviews, too. And got accepted.
I saw it as both negative - that they weren’t sure enough of my app and 1st interview to take me straight off - and positive -they were interested enough to go to the bother of arranging a second.
My 2nd interviewer did assure me that there was nothing to be worried about as the admissions people just wanted a bit more info on me. I guess the fact that I’m an international factored in though - maybe it was stuff like the different school and exams systems that meant they needed to hear as much as possible.
