The Truth Behind Brown's Med School Acceptance Rate

As many of you have read in Brown University literature, Brown has one of the highest medical school acceptance rates in the country. I was wondering whether anyone might have any information behind this rating. Specifically:

1) Is this number really high due to the PLME program?
2) What exactly about Brown do you think leads to such a high acceptance rate? (e.g. pre-med advising, constricted applicant pool, unique students, etc.)

1) I'm 99.99% sure that those numbers have nothing to do with PLME students who don't apply out.
2) Prepare smart, independently motivated students who are recognized by respected programs as smart, independently motivated/independent minded students.

I was wondering the same thing... If you read the statements carefully though, they always say that people get into ONE of their top choice schools, not their single top choice school. So there's some ambiguity about what constitutes someone's top choice school. Regardless, the numbers are still high!

first off, the stat I believe is like what percentage get into top 3 or 5 choices. They determine that by asking people if they are going to one of their top 3 or 5 schools. I'm almost positive that this stat only applies for people applying to medical school, and thus PLMEs are not counted at all.

In re: "If you read the statements carefully though, they always say that people get into ONE of their top choice schools, not their single top choice school."

With MD admissions, considering the extraordinarily low acceptance rates, the numbers of people who get into their top choice would be too low and variable to provide a useful comparison across schools, which is why they do the stat this way.

Agree. Given the difficulty of getting into medical school at all, few students can afford the high school-like luxury of picking a few top choices before they are admitted anywhere. Just be glad you got in.
