The Truth...

I’ve been hearing a lot of negative things about BU’s college of general studies. Basically that it is “crayons, glue and scissors”-or the 13th and 14 grade-often criticized by the rest of BU

i really like bu-but im scared that i will be put in cgs for my lowish gpa -if its as bad as it is called out to be then i won’t bother -

is this an exaggeration or what?

OK, the truth about CGS is this: you're in it for 2 years and your courses are selected for you, which is why people call it 13th and 14th grades. after those 2 years, you can transfer into any other college at BU (CAS, sargent, SMG, COM, etc) and pick a major and spend the next 2 years completing it. you get the same degree as everyone else so no one even knows that you were in CGS to begin with. the only thing is that, with certain majors, and kids that want to be pre-med, you most likely will need an extra year because you can't complete all the requirements in 2 years. however, for SHA and plenty of other majors, this isnt a problem. tons of people start out in cgs, and yes it is called "crayons glue and scissors," but every school has something like that. SMG is "sex money greed" for example. the truth is, no one really cares what school youre in. people wont avoid you if youre in cgs. your friends might tease you about it in a joking manner, but as for me and all my friends and everyone else i know, we couldnt care less.

My SA at orientation said some people give CGS kids a hard time, but for the most part, it isnt a big deal. The truth is, we actually get a more well rounded education than everyone else. I love CGS and all the interesting classes and subjects we're learning. It's far from high school.

ok. if you are friends with mainly CGS kids, you wont get bugged about it.
HOWEVER. if you spend a majority of your time with non-CGS kids, you'll get ***** about it..haha but nothing to get all self-conscience about.
