The fact that I'm considering attending Tulane means that I'm not solely concerned with prestige; there are a lot of other factors influencing my decision.

However, name recognition and prestige are things to take into account. I'm not saying that one's decision should be contingent upon name recognition or prestige, but attending a prestigious college whose academic program is known to be rigorous can help in graduate and professional school admissions.

I'm sure Tulane is a great school, but considering that it's located in the most dangerous city in the United States, that it's dissolved many of its graduate schools and its entire engineering program, and considering that its students are known to party to excess, I want to be assured that my undergraduate degree won't inhibit me.

"Most of our departments are generally good. There are rotten eggs in each, but there are exceptional professors available as well. Math students tend to be the ones going for tutoring at the ERC. We have a great Pre-Med program, and so many kids start off on that route. We also have a great Business school - currently ranked #10 in the WORLD - and great programs in Architecture, Latin American Studies, and more. There are many science majors, many Business majors, and then lots of students doubling or minoring in a foreign language. Spanish is a favorite, as are French and Italian. A number of students go for Chinese as well. We have lots of theatre kids, lots of communications kids, literature, dance, just about a taste of everything imagineable. I cannot stress enough how we are committed to academics, in spite of the constant partying."

My college consultant would rather me go to Tulane than Georgia Tech. Also she said one of her doctors was from Tulane.
