The typical "Is this good enough?"

Hello all,

I retook the SAT in October from the testing in May, and I wanted to inquire if these scores are now quasi-competitive for HYPSM schools:
May
CR - 800
Writing - 740
Math - 590

October
CR - 800
Writing - 780
Math - 690

Overall, 2130 => 2270. Are these scores (especially the Math section scores) appropriate for the universities to which I am applying? Thank you in advance for your time.

Retake. Math should be higher

My brother got into Yale with 800 cr 790 w 700 m but I think 700 might be a magic number.

If you think you can do better (you have the time to study for math), then retake it. If not, then I think it’s a fine score (congratulations!).

Thank you for your honesty. I wish you all the best

I got the EXACT same score, and I’m retaking. (Then again, as a junior, I have plenty of time…) I’m obviously very happy with writing/critical reading, but my essay score was only a 9, and since many colleges primarily look at the critical reading/math, I feel like I need to improve my score.

Just out of curiosity - what colleges are you looking at?

They are appropriate, though math is improvable. If you think you can improve it after studying, go for it.
