The Typical Student at Johns Hopkins?

Can someone describe to be the typical student at Johns Hopkins including study time, personality, social life, stress level, and content with the school?

Hi hifemaleseanfeng,

While I’m only a freshman, I can describe to you what I’ve witnessed so far.

In my opinion, the majority of the students have a very balanced lifestyle - they are able to both study hard and have fun. Many students will spend a lot of time in the library and still go out at night, a lot even go out on weeknights if they don’t have any work due the next day. And, of course, you have your extremes - there are students that never leave the library and there are those that go out every night; however, on average, the students are able to maintain a great balance between social and academic lives.

In terms of personality, I really don’t see a big difference compared to other places - you have partiers, odd-balls, nerds, flirts, introverts, etc…but the one neat thing is that everyone is really, really smart. It’s nice to be around an intelligent group of students.

I would say the stress level is above your national average simply because everyone wants to do well. None of the students are cut-throat, but they are competitive in the sense that they want to achieve good grades (especially when many Hopkins students are looking to attend med, law, or grad school). When midterms and finals come around, people stress out just because they want that A, I wouldn’t call it a bad thing.

Also, most everyone here LOVES the school. I personally haven’t talked to anyone with any complaints. I, for one, absolutely love it here.

If you would like to get a better view of what a “typical” Hopkins student is, you should definitely check out this resource: [Hopkins Interactive | Home](http://www.hopkins-interactive.com/)
You can read blogs by current students and check out their profiles, it’s really helpful if you’re considering the school and want to get a feel for the student body.

I hope I was able to answer your question - feel free to let me know if you have any more!

There really is no typical student. We have every type of person you could possibly think of. However, in terms of lifestyle, I think “work hard, play hard” really does fit most people. People spend a lot of time studying and doing work but there’s still a pretty vibrant social life most nights (especially on the weekends, obviously) if you want it.

I agree with both posters above. I especially agree on the fact that there isn’t really a standard student at Hopkins. Everyone is different - I think that’s what I love the most about Hopkins - it’s really diverse. There is a niche for everyone here.
