the U-M app is confusing...

Hey everyone!

I'm applying to U of M this fall and am currently in the process of filling out the application. Some parts of it, however, are so confusing. Where you enter in your current courses for the term that 'ends this year' (first section of the 2 required boxes on pg 3 I believe) - do you fill out the classes for the LAST semester of your JUNIOR YEAR or FIRST semester of your SENIOR year?

Also, what do we put for the course #s? Does anyone have any idea???

Thanks so much for your help.

current would be 1st semester senior year. Ur transcript will tell them what other courses you took. They wanna know what Ap/hon's/difficulty of curriculum you are continuing why they're reviewing ur app

Thanks for clearing that up, umardar...

Does anyone else know what to put down for the course #?

Man, I had the same problem too. Does the University of Michigan give a lot of consideration towards your essays? Or is it not as important? Thanks.

Each course that you take in high school should have a respective number that's associated with it in order to identify it when you set up your senior year schedule. That's the one that they're looking for here. Just ask your GC about it if you're still comfused (or even call the admissions office at U of M for that matter).

I'm not sure how important the the essays are in the admissions process since I'm not an admissions officer. However, if you spend time on the essays and write good ones, all they can do is help you. However, if you don't take them seriously, I'm sure that'll be noticed as well.

Not much.

Thanks everyone for your help... I talked to my GC and now know the course #s... Just one more quick question. If I send in an additional recommendation letter to UofM besides the one that is required, will this teacher need to fill out the supplement form?

I believe that if you're a great student, the essays are a formality. If you're a student who falls more in the middle-of-the-road in the applicant pool, a superb essay could make the difference.

I need some clarification on the essays!

How many do we have to write? I know about the one that asks what we would contribute to the campus community, but I thought there were two others, and I don't see them!

Help!

Ok people, this isn't a tough process geez. Read the directions.

In Part one answer the short question.

In Part two, answer the question that relates to the college you're applying to. So if you're going into LSA, answer the LSA question.

In Part three (which is the essay section) answer one of the three questions given.

That is a total of THREE writing assignments

If I'm applying to both the Music school as well as LSA, do I have to answer both short answer questions?

On the App, there is a place to mark for Dual Applicants. There is a box to check for LSA/Music applicants. In that case, yes you would probably have to answer both the LSA and Music questions.

It even says in the section....with the LSA and Music short answer questions, it has in parenthesis for (dual applicants, freshmen, transfer students)

how do i obtain a hard copy without having to print out the pdf?

You'll have to sign up for Michigan's mailing list on their web site. I'd hurry with that if you want a hard copy from them though because they ran out of hard copies last year. I actually gave mine away to a classmate (since I did my application online) since Michigan didn't have any more left to give him.

You could also check your school, they might have some 2. UM rep's constantly sent our counselors tons of app's to our school.

Is anyone thinking of doing the Ross School of Business pre-admit thing? I'm really giving that a lot of consideration.
