but at the same time.. w/the same number of questions -5 wrong was 70MC on new SAT but -5 was like 78MC for sat2

Good point ashernm, and it does kind of prove my point as well. The SAT II Writing should NOT be compared to the new SAT Writing, and yet the UCs do it anyway. This seems pretty unfair, but the good news is that most schools will be much more flexible and only put a minimal weight on the new SAT Writing.

ramsfan, they couldnt possibly compare the score to old SAT IIs, because what if like 70% have applicants have less than 700, or a much lesser proportion than before? They will probably look at the scores of all the applicants and form an attitude towards the scores based on that.

Yes, that's what they should (and probably will) do. For now, though, UC's assistant vice chancellor seems to think scores from the SAT II and new SAT writing are comparable. They probably will change their policy, but it doesn't put the concerns of the previous poster to rest. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2005/04/14/MNG77C85Q71.DTL

berkeley and UCLA do not care about he SAT. they have too many applications to use it in a point system and since their yield is higher than the other uc's, they rely more on subjective information like essays and grades. the other uc's like davis, irvine, and sd all use point systems to accept and then read the essays of those on the borderline.

"berkeley and UCLA do not care about he SAT"

hahahahahahaha

typo, about + the got mashed together as i was typing. i meant "about THE SAT"

Yup. The UC system really does not care about SAT scores.
