The Ultimade thread of the HARDEST/CRAZIEST/TRICKIEST Math and Writing problems

So...we have LESS THAN TWO WEEKS left until the SAT (time flies). Time for the final review!

The title says it all, post the hardest/trickiest/craziest math and writing SAT problems you have encounted in your prep--or just any problem that you find difficult or weird. This is a prep thread. If there is anything you don't understand, chances are someone else doesn't either, so this thread should be helpful to everyone (even the consistent 800'ers might find something of use).

Hmm.. and any crazy vocab can also be added (:

Cheers!
EDIT: LOL @ THE TITLE! Woops. Ultimate*!

This thread fails. When people have trouble with a difficult question, they’ll make their own thread. Its much more systematic that way. Please stop?

I actually like the idea of this thread…I could just come here for all the stuff instead of looking at a bunch of threads. WantIvy I think you should start off posting problems

i too like the idea of this thread, its a great way to consolidate information… but would like someone else to start?? lol

Less than two weeks left!! WHO ELSE IS SUPER EXCITED?

I also think this thread is ■■■■■■■■. Its simpler to have questions and their respective answers on separate threads. In a consolidated thread like this, its going to be really confusing when questions are not next to their answers.

And shiomi, I swear we are always on at the same times…

What? It’s two weeks away? I got plenty of time.
-goes back to sleep-

^I think we are on at the same times khoitrinh…

Um I just said that?

Well anyways, I guess I’ll start off with the first question.

The BB, practice test #5, section 9, question #1, pg 679
I think the book is wrong. I guessed E, but the book said something ■■■■■■■■ like 3/5 = 6/10.

Ahh so many criticisms :. Khoitrinh I agree with you that it might get a little confusing… but we can try to keep it a little organized? There were many random threads going around so I figured it might be better to have one place for everyone to go. Sorry if anyone disagrees.

.30608=3/10^j + 6/10^k + 8/10^m, what is j+k+m?

Khoitrinh’s problem: 3/5=6/10 .. 32/(52) = (6/10)

Use parentheses in your equations please…
And my question was obviously a joke.

Did you mean something like 3/(10^j) or (3/10)^j ?

.30608=3/(10^j) + 6/(10^k) + 8/(10^m). Find j+k+m. sorry.

Also, another one:

Two coordinates (a,b) and (c,d) are on a coordinate plane.
a^2 + b^2 + c^2 + d^2 = 268 (I think)
ac + bd = 81

Find the distance between these points.

To get the .3 part of the .30608, you have to divide 3 by 10. To get the .006 you divide 6 by 1000, and to get the .000008, you divide 8 by 100000. j=1, k = 3, m = 5. j+k+m = 9

@WantIvy:

a^2 + b^2 + c^2 + d^2 = 268 –> eqn. 1

ac + bd = 81 –> eqn. 2

To find distance between two points, (a,b) and (c,d), the formula is:

[(a-c)^2+(b-d)^2]^-2
= [a^2 - 2ac+c^2 + b^2 - 2bd + d^2]^-2

So, if you take eqn. 1 and subtract 2xeqn. 2 from it, you would get

a^2 + c^2 + b^2 + d^2 - 2(ac + bd)

which is equivalent in the inside of the distance formula, [a^2 - 2ac+c^2 + b^2 - 2bd + d^2]^-2

Where did that question come from? It seems kind of hard for an SAT question.

It might be one of the harder questions. I think those do come up. I remember on the ACT last year, there was one SUPER brutal. They might just curve those off O_o

Can you guys answer this question..

.http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/569646-2004-psat-writting-question.html</a></p>

can you guys also answer this one

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/569646-2004-psat-writting-question.html</a></p>

How people could use this thread:
Umm…I guess if you have a hard question…you can make a thread about it…and post the url here…so others can see. That way, this thread will organize the hard questions. Also, this thread will be kept alive while the other thread will most likely die…

For example…Check this out if you want

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/569253-interesting-writting-question.html?highlight=Writting+Question</a></p>

The question above that I posted came from a November SAT a few years back. Questions of that calibur do appear
