The ULTIMATE ANSWER to "Is this Manageable?" Threads

---I'm not sure how long this will be on the front page of HSL, but I thought it might be helpful, what with the 5*10^8 threads in this vein posted every day.---

So, you want to know if you can handle a schedule? Then this is the self-scored quiz for you!

QUIZ:

A Give these statements a rating, from 0-5, based on how true they are for you.

(1) My friends are taking easier classes than I am.
(2) I am not very interested in the topics of the classes I am taking which are considered difficult.
(3) For tests in general, I have to study a decent amount to get an A.
(4) Some of my teachers-to-be have a bad reputation for teaching.
(5) Some of my teachers-to-be are known for giving out a large amount of written homework.
(6) I will be heavily involved outside of school.
(7) I am not interested in some of my extracurricular activities in which I will be heavily involved.
(8) I want to get an A in every subject I plan on taking.

B Give these statements a rating, from 0-5, based on how true they are for you.

(1) I read quickly.
(2) I remember most of what I read.
(3) I am good at most subjects.
(4) I have a better memory for concepts and ideas than for discrete facts.
(5) My sleep schedule is very important to me. I prioritize getting a decent amount of sleep above doing perfectly on tests and participating in extracurriculars.
(6) I have an active, engaging social life, and a good relationship with my family.
(7) I am usually happy, and it takes a great deal to stress me out.
(8) I look forward to many of the classes I plan to take.

C Subtract the number of classes you'll have, excluding PE and classes such as fine arts, from 5. Add this number to the number of AP or honors classes you'll be taking minus 2. Multiply this quantity by 3.

SCORING:

Add your score from A to your score from C. Subtract your score from B.

INTERPRETATION:

A score of 0 would be well-balanced. A score any higher would be something to watch out for. The more negative your score, the better your life inside and outside of school will be, and the easier to manage your schedule will be.

However you came up with this, it is genius! Thank you very much!

Incredible.
Needs a sticky immediately.

Well done, Good Sir.

God bless you sir! :D

JimboSteve this is awesome! I took the quiz myself and I ended with 1, this will be a good year I suppose. I will try to link this thread as frequently as possible.

You could make money off of this, well done.

Mods.

Please Sticky.

If 5 is the most true, I got a 1 XD

I got a -4 with my most difficult possible schedule, so my year should be just fine. I suck at time management, though… :(

I solemnly swear to bump this whenever possible, should it not receice its well-deserved sticky.

I got seven…

I got a three… ah well, I think I’ll survive.

This thread definitely deserves a sticky. It’s amazingly helpful. Thanks! :)

Agreed. Please sticky!

I must keep this alive.

STICKY!!! JimboSteve, how did you come up with this!!! GENIUS!! I got a 3 (I don’t know about my future teachers), but I think 3 is a good number for my schedule next year. The truth is, I’m taking comp. sci. as an elective, which is pretty hard, and a bunch of honors. I have no idea how you came up with this, but it’s brilliant!!!

wow i think that formula is just the right amount of complex to get the job done well - complex enough to make it impressive and convincing so people trust it and don’t make a thread anyway, but not so complex that too few people use it. i like it.

This is beyond excellent. -2, even with 5 AP tests next year. I think I can handle it.

When taking this “test”, be sure to be honest with yourself.

8…

I’m doomed o.0

at least I don’t have to worry much about 2nd semester except for AP exams

This thread must not die…

Is it just me, or does something seem backwards? All of the factors from B are positives that would make a schedule easier. The higher your A and C score are, the more stressed you will be. If you are following the scoring instructions:

Subtract your score from B. So that would mean B-(A+C)=your score. However, a negative score is supposed to mean a low-stress schedule. But if your positives (B) are low and your negatives (A and C) are high, then a negative score will result in a more stressful schedule.

And for the record I got -13. Still not concerned about my schedule.

Good idea though. Just needs some tweaking.
