Your a very strong applicant as you are likely very aware of. If your essays are convincing you should have a very strong shot at being admitted at Stanford!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/585610-chances-so-so-sat-scores-top-schools.html</a></p>

stanford ed? they only have scea, you should know that. the deadline was nov. 1, and you could only apply to that school. if you did indeed apply to stanford ea and the other schools, should you get into to stanford your admission will be thrown out.

i only really know about stanford, thats where i went scea. your unweighted gpa is similar to mine, except with mine if you take out freshman year its much higher. hopefully you have an upward trend. the scores are there, how did you get a 4 on chem? thats like the easiest ap exam. i’d be worried about your recs, they need to paint the picture of a unique applicant that the schools want, if they’re saying the same thing the average one says, that could hurt you a lot. hopefully your essays will do what the recs potentially cant. i’d say well above average chances at stanford, but no where close to being in for sure.

caltech id be worried about your science/math activiies involvement, i only see one thing

other than that, good luck

ssjosh135 – S + Caltech can never be “low reaches” unless the applicant is exceedingly strong and has URM status!!!

Hi arcademic!

I have nearly nothing to do, and I haven’t chanced anyone in a while (I used to do alot during the summer), so I’m more than happy to chance you right now.

Before I start, I’m lol-ling at your “ORM” status. Funny, but it’s less true than you actually think.

To start out, I’ll look at your UW GPA. At a 3.80, it’s not low (contrary to others’ opinions) but it’s not outstanding. However, what backs this up is your rigorous curriculum. If you have any extenuating circumstances that might have adversely affected your performance in school (e.g. parents divorce or you had to undergo surgery), have your GC mention it in her/his rec.

Other than that, you’re obviously a very strong test-taker. Your SAT composite - highest in one sitting - of 2340 is very strong, and your SAT Subjects are nothing to scoff at. You will also probably recieve college credit for most of the AP scores that you’ve recieved so far.

Moving on: Your ECs are also very strong, and you demonstrate a solid interest in the Sciences. You might not demonstrate leadership in your ECs, but you seem to have been active enough to provide a good description of some of the activities you’ve been a part of. That’s good. It shows that you didn’t just show up for the EC just so that you could plop in into your app, as some losers do. The key thing here is to demonstrate passion in your essays. If you truly enjoy what you did, then I’m pretty sure you won’t have a problem with this.

However, a note about one of your ECs:

If anything, please don’t put the above EC on your app … it makes you look like a superficial airhead. You have an impressive app … don’t ruin it!

Your volunteering record is also pretty good.

Overall, you’re a very high-performing and an extremely active student. You should be proud of yourself. (Just tell yourself this: Bs don’t kill you … they make you stronger!)

Chances:
Stanford ED: Reach (it’s a reach for everyone)

NOTE: Stanford has an SCEA policy. Make sure that nothing conflicts with their admission plan by reading this site carefully: [Restrictive Early Action : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/application/decision_process/restrictive.html). If it does conflict, you must either move your Stanford app into the RD pool or withdraw either your Stanford app or your EA apps. I did this because I noticed that you had quite a few EA schools.

Caltech EA: Reach (it is for everyone, but your chances could be improved with AMC/AIME supplemental test scores)
UPenn EA: Reach (heck it’s an Ivy)
WUSTL EA: Match
UCLA: Safety match (I don’t want to call it a safety because it’s such a great school)
UCB: Safety match
Univ of Washington: Safety
UCSD: Safety
USC: Match
UCI: In

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you have any more ?s
-ab2013

Upenn has ed, wustl has ed, and Stanford has scea…

caltech - reach
upenn - low reach
wash.u. - high match
ucla -match
ucsd - match
uwash - in
usc - match
UCI: In

chance me back!

I must have missed over the asian male part of his profile. Yeah ab2013- Stanford and Caltech are reaches, not low reaches

Stanford (ED) - reach, probably reject
Caltech (EA) - reach, no idea
U. Penn. (EA) - reach, 60% chance
Wash. U. (EA) - high match
UCLA - high match
UCB - high match
U. Wash. - in
UCSD - match
USC - match
UCI - in

Yeah, you need to reexamine applying policies for Stanford, Penn, and Wash U. There is no way in hell you can apply to all those schools early, seeing as Stanford’s SCEA precludes you from applying anywhere else early.

That being said, stats are solid. Though I would expect with such solid stats that you would be more careful  Is this like for a friend or something?

^ haha true dat!

On another note, I hope you realize that Wash U. has no EA. It’s either single-choice, completely binding ED, or just RD :(

Call me ignorant, but I thought affirmative action was banned in California and discrimination towards asian students is (in general) out of practice/illegal in other states. (not necessarily all states) Why would being asian be a disadvantage? (or an advantage, depending on the circumstances) Is this some garbage about “quotas,” or is it subtle racism and comparison?

Thanks a ton, y’all.
Okay, I’ll research the admission processes for all these schools. (I was just sort of throwing out stuff.) Doesn’t make that much of a difference, does it?
And to jsd472: yeah, I guess it’s just the idea of “Asian Male, good test-taker, decent grades, etc. etc. bleh moving on”. Sort of thing.
Any other advice/chances?
Appreciate it!

Bump5678910ohwait.

Yeah, California schools don’t practice affirmative action, but other schools, particularly the privates do. So being an asian for those schools would be considered an advantage, but for California schools it theoretically shouldn’t matter.

@GimmeStanford, Chemistry isn’t the easiest AP ever and some would even say it is one of the harder ones.

Anyways…
Probably in at the mid UCs and matches for the upper UCs (Cal, LA, SD)

Any other input/advice/comments?
