The University of British Columbia

Can anyone tell me about this university? I'm looking to apply to one school in Canada, and this university looks so serene and beautiful. Plus, it's situated in Vancouver, which is an awesome city. According to Princeton Review, the tuition's only $2,500 a year? Is this correct?

How difficult is it to gain admission compared to American universities?

Forget the comment in regard to tuition - it's obviously not true. I found out it's closer to $30,000 a year (total) - I wonder why it says differently on Princeton Review.

One price is for Canadian residents; its quite a lot more for US students (actually more $$ than other Canadian colleges). It's a huge school in a nice location with lots of good programs. Admission is easier than comparable US programs. I know a kid who went last year and likes it, but you have to want a huge school

I live in Vancouver and UBC is about ten minutes away. It's a really pretty school, and Vancouver has good weather compared to lots of other places on the east coast (it rains a lot though).

If you plan on boarding, I guess the tuition will be higher, but i dont think it's anywhere near $30 000.

It's not difficult to gain admission if you have good grades. For us over here, we need a 90+ average for the more selective science faculties.

Thanks for the insight akiiriah. It seems that the tuition varies, since they don't charge a flat rate, but rather charge per credih our.

According to the UBC site:

Tuition for a business undergrad is $23,793 per year (for a year's worth of credits), and living costs for 8 months is $9,540. Bringing the total for tuition and room/board to $33,333.

Forgot to add - those are Canadian dollars.

So $33,333 Canadian Dollars is approximately $34,511. What a shame that the US dollar is so weak.

UBC is in a great location, literally minutes from many beaches and surrounded by lovely forest. It snows occasionally and rains about half the time, but I’ve heard the weather is better than the rest of Canada. It’s just a short bus ride from downtown - Vancouver is a world class city with nonstop nightlife and great restaurants. I would only give a few words of caution - it is quite expensive for non BC residents, though yes, only $2500 for residents. Also, the school is very clique-y, so unless you’re from Vancouver and already know a lot of people (which it sounds like you aren’t) you might have a tough time at first.
