Hey guys I got accepted today as an out of state student so I want to share my stats because some people are intimidated by the low OOS admission rate.
College: College of Natural Sciences (Physics)
Stats:
ACT: 32
GPA: 3.90
Rank: 7/245
Other stats: 4s and 5s in all my AP exams
Subjective:
Essays: I’m not really sure how good these are to other people, but I was just 100% genuine and talked about things that really mattered to me with no filter.
Teacher Recs: First, if you’re OOS I highly recommend you get a teacher rec to help you stand out. I think mine was great because the teacher loved me and told me she did an awesome job (I didn’t read it).
Counselor Rec: none
Hook (if any): none that are really outstanding
Location/Person:
State or Country: Alabama
School Type: public school
Ethnicity: white
Gender: male
General Comments: im so happy about being accepted. Now that I got accepted to this great school, the decisions from the more elite colleges don’t really matter anymore because UT is so awesome. I can’t wait to (maybe) study physics where Neil deGrasse Tyson got his Masters! Also I want to say that I’m proof that you don’t need a 35 on the ACT to get into UT OOS. Just be genuine in your essays and get a teacher to write a recommendation.
@sunbeams Thank you very much! I believe that last night was one of numerous waves. The UT Admissions Twitter page has said that it is improbable that another round will be released before Christmas, and that the one from last night is complete.
@helicopter8 Applied on Oct 1; Yes. I played varsity tennis that went to state finals; Accounting camps at SMU (paid camps); RYLA leadership Camps + the usual volunteering, charity, etc – I guess these helps…
I’m getting concerned that I haven’t heard. My stats are borderline. I applied 10/15. Do you think you would be able to tell me what you think?
SAT: 1630
GPA: uw: 3.52

@qwertyuiopp1 sorry to say UT Austin is a out of question for OOS. Almost 80+ is from Texas and most of auto admit. For OOS you need to fight against about 20% of available openings. Which people from Texas who are not Auto Admit compete (I belong in that group and I got in). So to really get in you need to have really good score. SAT 1630 is low (Texas A&M may be a good shot - again same problem as most student are from Texas).
If you can tell me the colleges you are looking at I can provide some insight as I have done some research
Damn. That sucks. I also applied to Penn State University Park, SUNY Binghamton, Indiana University Bloomington (accepted), Fordham, (rejected), Hofstra, and Notre Dame. At this point I’m just praying to get into Penn State or SUNY Binghamton
