The University of Texas Class of 2020 Decisions Thread

@qwertyuiopp1 Me too! I got into Penn State and I’m waiting to hear back from Bing. Praying on texas though

Applicant from Maryland here. I was accepted to McCombs for Undecided Business!!! Still waiting for BHP news. I received a email saying that there was a message on My Status and I looked and I was accepted!!! I applied a couple of weeks ago, so I was surprised that I was accepted so early. Good Luck to everyone!!

Curious as to when your email went out and what your quick stats were? Thx

With the rank I sent to UT in early September, I was one person out of top 8%. I was just curious as to if I send an updated rank that includes all of my first semester courses where I am in the top 8% will they consider it all? or just be irritated that i’m sending extra paper work past the deadline?

@qwertyuiopp1 Of all the colleges see my suggestion (may vary by major)
Penn State University Park, - Good School - Good change of getting in
SUNY Binghamton, - Same as above
Indiana University Bloomington (accepted), - It is a vary good school…may vary by major
Fordham, (rejected),
Hofstra, - I do not know much
Notre Dame. - It is a reach.

@loop2loop I got the email Thursday night. Quick stats:

  • 2150 SAT (2110 one sitting)
  • #1 in class, 5.46 weighted gpa (my school ranks based on weighted)
  • Lots of ECs, some that were really unique
  • Jewish (Doesnt really matter at schools in Maryland/Northeast, but I dont think there are a lot of Jews at Texas)

@loop2loop. There is a healthy, active Jewish community at Texas. I’m graduate and my daughter recently accepted oos. Just FYI

Oops. Reply meant to be for @happyhappy123

@bk1366, yeah I guess I’m becoming very impatient. I’m so curious as to how these schools are selecting the applications and deciding which students have been accepted. It seems so random, which is the aggrevating part.

@qwertyuiopp1 Actually it is very logical. They have a fomula. Below is the defn
The Academic Index (AI) is determined by a multiple regression equation utilizing a high school percentile derived from an explicit class rank and class size [1-(class rank/class size)]*100, and verbal, math, and writing test scores from the ACT Assessment or the SAT Reasoning Test. The equation produces a predicted freshman year grade point average.i

The Personal Achievement Index (PAI) is UT Austin’s holistic approach to admissions. Admissions officers are trained each year to conduct comprehensive reviews of every completed application. All applicants are required to submit two essays. They are encouraged to include a resume detailing their civic and academic activities during their high school years. The resume, including letters of recommendation and all other items an applicant chooses to include, is then reviewed and scored on a scale of 1-6.
For example the Business School AI Calculation

Business – SAT Model
-2.668 + (SAT M * .002) + (SAT W * .001) + (HSR * .032) + (SAT CR * .001)

Hope this helps.

@COLLEGE1357911 The only thing that could even potentially hurt you is the GPA. It’s not even a bad GPA, but obviously McCombs is one of the best Business Schools in the Country and very hard to get into. The difficulty to get into McCombs and Cockrell, for both in and out of state, is makes UT seem like such a hard school to get into. You have a good chance tho.

My daughter is auto admit and confirmed for Biology, Got admission for Plan 2 and waiting on Dean’s. I know 2 kids got their decision as well. One Engg Hons(Chem Engg+40k scholarship from UT) and plan 2, one BHP. All three have ACT 35+, ranked 3,4 and I think 14. All three are National Merit Semi’s and other good stuff like SAT math 800, bunch of APs… My son is a sophomore and in plan 2 and ECE honors. He got his scholarship and honors decision in March of 2014. I can tell based on my past experience you all need to wait until March for scholarships. Some may get early and some little later. I do not see any rationale but who knows. My son got a good 48K scholarship from UT. Do not loose hope, stay positive and of course there is lot of competition out there.

@sunbeams Sorry for the late response. Decisions came out online on December 18th. Didn’t get mailed until the 21st I think.
