The University of Texas Class of 2020 Decisions Thread

My son applied in August and is an auto admit. His status still says complete/on time. He hasn’t heard anything from UT and it doesn’t show him to even be in review. Is that normal? He applied to McCombs.

@txfan70 I believe that until she was admitted, my daughter’s status showed complete/on time on the right in green, but the sentences at the top said that her application was in review. (I think that’s how I remember seeing it.)

Once she was accepted, both sections changed. Hope that helps.

I wanted to see if anyone is in the same predicament as me.

I applied on September 20th for neuroscience with relatively good stats. On October 9th I sent in my Polymathic Scholars Application (my teacher took forever to send in her recommendation). I was planning on combining Neuroscience and Kinesiology. I haven’t heard back though. I distinctly remember an admissions counselor telling my parents and I that all auto admits should receive notification of their major by winter break… Yet here I am. I was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat as me, and also see if anyone else applied for Polymathic?

Thanks!

Thank you @txserenity for the quick response. That does help! Hope he hears something soon.

My daughter also applied October 1 And on October 15 for deans scholars - she’s an automatic admit and has not heard anything on her major as well. Also her deans scholars status just says “in review”. The wait continues…

@wardroger000 My daughter applied for Polymathic and hasn’t heard anything yet either. She has been accepted into her major (computer science), but no word on either of the Honors programs to which she applied.

My son applied August 22nd and LAH on Sept 25th. Both are still in review. It allowed us to get the housing app in super early and should have nearly first pick of dorm, but we gotta get in first. Supposedly we may not hear until March. Hurry up and wait.

Hey guyzzz…I applied to Cockrell school of engineering on 24th november.
I am an International (INDIAN) student.
However, I didn’t send ‘Official’ transcripts as I mistook unoffcial or uploaded ones as official earlier.
Will I still be considered for admissions?
My status is showing 'CompletE"???

THANKS!!!

@txserenity Alright thanks! I was just wondering, since a lot of honors programs were being notified, if the CNS were releasing those decisions yet. I heard that if you apply for one of the honors, you are given a chance at all of them? Or something along those lines. But thanks again, hope you’re daughter gets in!

@Bailey101 glad to know I’m not the only one out there.

@wardroger000 It was a separate application for Polymathic and Turing (CS honors) I believe, but I know you can apply to both.

ok…I responded some time back on what we experienced. My son is in UT, sophomore year and he was an auto admit. He applied on Oct 21st 2013 and got his Plan 2 and Engg decision by Dec 1st week. However we only heard on hons decision in the month of March( 2014), with a full scholarship (48k with Crockrell ECE).

My daughter is in the same boat. She applied on October 15th 2015, auto admit to Biology, got her plan 2 in 2nd week of Dec and waiting on Dean’s. Her class mate got both Plan 2, Engg (chemical) and Hons decision with 40K scholarship about 10 days back. Both got 35 and 36 respectively in ACT, top 4 ranks, one year core research and over 200 hours of service and the BHP kid at 14th rank, over 200 service hours, core research for one year I know another kid got into BHP and not into plan 2, but waiting. You all have time until Mar and will have to go thru some frustration

I also hear one of friends daughter in Houston got into plan 2 and Dean’s program couple weeks back. I guess they sent out very few hons decisions (which UT believes are the super strong candidates). As i know UT looks at academics first and then the rest. a 4.0 GPA, or a 36 in ACT and National Merit Semi Finalist. Forty Acres is a separate program and it is the toughest with full ride in UT. As i know Polymathic, Touring, Dean’s are 3 tracks for honors by department and not sure if you can apply to all of them. There is another presidential scholar under which one can get 20K for 4 years and one time 1,500 dollars for study abroad. Hope this helps…Always hope for the best since no one can influence the out come. So why to feel miserable and enjoy your holidays

If you are in state and are not auto admit, it’s going to be hard to get into UT. Reason being is that the reason they have to raise the auto admit percentage each year (and from 10% to 7-8%) is because there are too many in state kids. They need diversity so unless you a stellar in state student not auto admit (which is very unlikely), then you probably won’t be getting in.

@geekychic97, that’s a bit of an overstatement. As I understand it, auto-admits are capped at 75% of the class. That leaves 25% who are not auto-admits. My understanding is that approximately 15% of class is reserved for in-state non-auto admits, and approx 10% for OOS/international students. Those numbers may be off slightly but they are very close. Yes, it’s competitive, but the slots are there (speaking as a Texan who got into CS from top 17% of hs class).

It seems to me that more OOS and non auto admits have found out so far than the auto admits as far as their majors. My daughter is top 3.5% of her class auto admit and still waiting to hear from them. She got her acceptances to two other schools very quickly, but UT has her waiting. Hoping for good news for everyone soon.

@geekychic97 . I understand your math but from what I see from Naviance, UT Austin has been taking top 30 and 40% kids from our school for years. Non-Auto’s relax! The application funnel at UT is HUGE. They do holistic reviews which take TIME. It’s hard being patient for students and parents but we’ll get there soon enough. Good luck everyone, stay positive.

@NotSoPatient I am a non-auto admit candidate to UT Austin. I got into UT Austin Business on Dec 19. I heard they are releasing in batches.

It’s becaus UT can just offer in-states another major and they will still attend, since there is so many of them. Plus they only pay instate tuition. Thus, they want to give the spot to a higher scoring OOS or int

Does Naviance distinguish between UT Austin and CAP? Looking at Naviance, my DS is solidly in th admit matrix, but I can’t get clear info about the numbers who are channeled into UTSA (or similar campus) or ACC.

My DS is non-auto admit and he has still heard nothing. While I i think he might be accepted, his choice of majors might be limited; this is what happened to students from last year’s class. His high school is one of the top public schools in the state, and a lot of kids were disappointed last year. Fortunately, my DS has been offered a great scholarship OOS.

@txstella UT Austin uses AI and PAI formula to select kids who are not Auto-Admit. More so in Eng and Business school. You can calculate the AI. It is based on GPA, Rank, SAT score. It varies by major

hey help me somebody brothers…
I am an international applicant who hasn’t sent official transcripts till now!
Will i be still considered.
anybody knows the deadline, if any?

Thanks…
