The University of Texas Class of 2020 Decisions Thread

@horchatarocks did you get accepted today? I’m out of state and am still waiting on mccombs.

@schoolisfunforme nope, I got notified last Thursday. Shouldn’t be too long before the next wave of decisions, though!

@krn123

Accepted into Cockrell School of Engineering (before anyone asks it was on 1/22)

Stats:
SAT: 2160 (also NMS, pending Finalist)
ACT: -
SAT IIs: Math II 680, Chem 660 (not sure if these are the exact numbers)
GPA: Not sure of 4.0 scale (sorry), but weighted I have a 5.1 cumulative (just about).
Rank: Does not rank
Other stats: AP’s included: World, U.S. History, Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics 2, Statistics, Government

Subjective:
Essays: 9.5/10
Teacher Recs: 9/10.
Counselor Rec: 10/10
Hook (if any): -

Location/Person:
State or Country: Florida
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Male

Other Factors: HUGE Leadership in Band, in chorus that went to Carnegie Hall. Not sure if these mattered too much because I’m applying for engineering, but leadership positions most likely helped (drum major/composed marching show). Vice President of S.T.E.M., also.

General Comments: Hope this helped!

People are saying they sent their apps in November and were notified last week. I applied October 13, is this bad if I haven’t heard anything?

Any Chemical Engineering Majors find out yet that were not in the November round?

I’m in the same boat as JTUni20, I applied early October for BME and haven’t heard anything. Two people at my school got in on the last wave and I know their stats were not stellar, one Civil Engineering and one Business.

@JTUni20 I wouldn’t worry yet, UT does holistic review for the students that are not automatically admitted and it is not a rolling admission program. They don’t finish notifications until March 1st I believe.

DD sent her app in in beg of September. She is an auto admit but still waiting on major -BME. Lots of kids with lower stats have gotten in to Cockrell but have not seen a lot of BME. I guess holistic admissions take a lot of time

Okay so does anyone know when the next wave of results would be out? If I am not wrong the previous one was last Thursday. My application has been ‘In Review’ for quite some time now. :expressionless:

Are my chances of getting in are greater if I applied to a less competitive major like Spanish???

Any one got accepted to Biology major ? I applied since mid October and still not received any thing ?

Does anyone know if there will be a wave tomorrow??

@sairam2016 My son is auto admit and got his major ( Biology) in December.

@sairam2016 My daughter was holistic review and was notified last week for Biology. UT does not have “rolling admissions” for holistic review candidates so I would not worry yet.

Out of state, College of Natural Sciences for Biochemistry, also accepted to Polymathic Scholars. I applied at the very end of November and was notified yesterday. I didn’t actually receive a letter or an email from UT though; I got an email from the Honors Dean telling me I was accepted to the Polymathic Scholars program and then when I checked MyStatus I found that I was admitted to the University as a whole.

Stats: (didn’t submit SATs, I didn’t feel like there was any point)
ACT: 35
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.2-ish W (4.0 scale, 7 APs)
Rank: high school doesn’t rank
Other stats: NMSF, AP Scholar with Honors, NHS, all that stuff

Subjective:
Essays: decent
Teacher Recs: didn’t read but probably good?
Counselor Rec: same as above
Hook (if any): legacy?

State or Country: New Mexico

My daughter was admitted to CNS Biology (First Choice) on December 17. She applied November 17, with honors/Plan II apps finished a few days later. Auto-admit

Just wanted to shed some hope on other applications with similar stats as mine… extremely mediocre. I just got accepted into McCombs on Thursday night, the 21st of Jan.
I applied on August 8th, ACT score 29, at time of application I was 28/286 (right outside of the 10%), I’m in-state, my GPA was 4.1 (weighted). I did have some leadership roles such as co-founding an organization and being a secretary and reporter of 2 other clubs. I was in the NHS and did a good amount of community service. I am honestly so honored to be accepted into the school. It has always been my dream to live in Austin, and I’m still in shock that I get to live out my dream next fall.

You had me until “instate”… Congrats though. Son has SAT of 2050 and 4.3 weighted GPA. McCombs is his first choice but being OOS, doesn’t look likely so far. I guess there are plenty of kids who really want to go to his home state school (UGA) that are feeling a similar OOS pinch.

Thanks @JAMCAFE and @CollegeMama987. Does anyone know when will be the next wave of decisions ?

@loop2loop I don’t think whether you are instate or out of state when comparing yourself against other holistic reviews. It’s hard to compare just test scores and gpa/rank because some students have unique talents or circumstances that make them stand out.
