@HemanthC98: I’m sorry about this. Your stats should be much better than UT academic standard. CS major must be very competitive for oos and int students this year. Anyways, you can always try to appeal your decision. I believe with that stat you can get admitted into many other good schools.
Hi Guys!
I’m new here. I am a US citizen, studying and living in India. I’ve applied to UT Austin as a domestic applicant and not as an international one. I’ve been admitted into UT Austin [Major in Electrical Engineering( Computer Engineering ) ]. It says my Honors application is still in review. I am treated as a non-resident of Texas, therefore I am not eligible for the FAFSA scholarship. I have paid the enrolment deposit, but when I try to fill the Engineering scholarship application,it says I haven’t been enrolled yet. How do I apply for a scholarship, then? And what other scholarships can I try to avail?
@HemanthC98, go to University of Michigan. The odds of winning an appeal are slight unless there was a real problem - a wrongly reported number. There were many students with outstanding academic stats that were turned down from CS this year. University of Michigan is a great school and congratulations on getting in there!
@HemanthC98 Michigan is an equally great school unless you want to be in a warmer climate. However, I am not sure appealing actually works for an International Student with no ties to US.
@ramya11 I think you might be trying to apply for a scholarship that is available only after you start school. I don’t think UT has announced any scholarships yet for engineering (usually it is tied to honors).
FAFSA is a federal aid program and not tied to your OOS status, only whether you have a greencard or citizenship. Have you/your parents filed a FAFSA using their tax returns or estimated income?
Stats:
ACT: 33 (36 reading, 31 math, 33 english, 32 english/writing)
GPA: 4.1 Weighted, 3.3 unweighted
Rank: 53/480
Other stats: Multiple 5 AP scores, self studied computer science and got a 4.
Subjective:
Essays: Strong, consider myself a good writer and have been told the same by multiple english teachers.
Teacher Recs: Very good. From two respected alums. Also had an employer (CEO of a small tech firm) write one.
Counselor Rec: n/a UT didn’t request one.
Location/Person: Central Texas
State or Country: TX
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Other Factors: Been coding for 4.5 years, employed as a web developer for most of high school. Tons of side projects. ~1000 hours volunteering with 4 nonprofits primarily as a programmer, with some strong leadership positions. Founder/cabinet member of multiple clubs at school. Winner of multiple CS-related awards. Moved cross country for a tech internship.
General Comments: My rank was weaker than the average accepted member to the CS program but my resume was very very strong and is probably the only reason I was accepted. Rejected from the Turing honors program.
Hey guys, just a heads up: If you were offered waitlist/pace/cap, my friend logged onto her my status yesterday and saw that she was offered admission off the waitlist. She now has to choose a major from a list of available majors. She did not get an email about this, so make sure to regularly check my status!
My daughter also got the same message, offered admission off wait list and will choose a major from a list of available majors. She received a letter this week that said she was offered wait list and that unlike previous years they expected to admit wait listed applicants. Looks like it’s true!
I don’t know yet. There is a video that you need to watch before you can proceed and I want her to watch it. I think after she watches it the available/ or recommended majors will be listed?
The majors appear after the video. Whenever her options appear, would you mind sharing if she was offered majors outside of the college of liberal arts? @AgEng87
