I will add to the statement by @fatherof2boys with info from a former admissions rep at UT (from another discussion board.) He verified that “Honors is completely separate from regular” admissions process.
Thanks @fatherof2boys , we are in state as well, North Dallas, and son is not auto, but top 10%. Regardless of LAH or Plan II, both which are reaches, we really need/want him to get into UT. Only then can I stop stressing about all this and other less targeted, reach schools. Good luck everyone and I’m still hopeful to hear something before the Christmas break. (From last years thread, some got emails around this time wishing the student a happy holiday and congratulating them on being accepted. I’d like to see that this year.)
@TXDad56, my son received a Happy Holidays email from UT on December 11 which stated “Happy Holidays - and welcome to the Class of 2020!”. It was simply a generic email sent out by UT that was not individualized for the email recipient.
I do believe that there is anticipation (can’t say what it is founded on) that UT will be making additional major acceptance notifications before the Xmas Break. My son told me that has been the speculation on the UT Admitted Facebook site. Again, he did not site to me the source of what posters on that site (automatic admits who have not been accepted into their major) were basing that expectation on. However, the day that UT made the first major notifications for auto admits (11/17) was also the date that my son’s My Status portal was updated to show that he had been accepted into UT. Thus, if the speculation by the auto admits on the UT Admitted Students Facebook site is correct, there’s a possibility your son might get notification on his admission decision before Xmas. However, I think that notification would be through the My Status portal rather than an email.
Evidently they’ve started releasing decisions again.
My daughter was accepted this morning. She’s a non-auto admit. Computer science. She applied in late September/Early October.
accepted out of state 97/100 average 28 act. solid personal achievement. liberal arts
beyond excited!!!
Congrats @jkenny50, and also congrats to your daughter @txserenity. My son told me that there are more major acceptances being reported on the UT Admitted Student Facebook site as well so this must be the December wave. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for admission and/or major acceptances - hopefully you have an early holiday gift awaiting you on the My Status portal.
Does anyone know if they release everything at once? Or will they be releasing decisions throughout the day? Anyone from New York hear yet?
Hey guys are you supposed to get an email or something once they decide your major. I checked on the Mystatus and went to freshman admission. It said that my major was Electrical Engineering, which I applied for but I never got any email or anything that said Congratulations on getting into the engineering school. Thanks!
Congrats @Khonqueror -
In the first round- did not receive an email but, in a few days you should get an envelope from UT with a “Gone to Texas” banner.
Also received an email a week or so ago about having a Happy Holiday- they may send those out to the new admits.
Are the releases throughout the day or simultaneously?
My daughter did not get an email but she just checked her MyStatus account a few minutes ago and she was admitted with computer science major. She is OOS (with TX connections), 11 AP classes, 4.0 uw, rank=top 1%, 2060 SAT (740M, 660 CR/W), great EC’s, including research for a CS professor last summer.
My daughter got admitted to the college of liberal arts this morning. Very happy for her.
Hi Breezey, Do you mind telling me when you D applied? My S who is also OOS applied to Business school on 11/29. We havne’t heard anyting yet but thats probably not unusual considering when he submitted. S has similar stats as your D although not quite as good- 11 AP classes, 3.96 uw, 2010 SAT (690M, 700 CR/W)
We also have some connections with TX as well. A family member who has raised a lot of $ for the school. Question; He wrote a great letter but would you recommend anything else? Thx
My son didn’t get a letter but checked it on MyStatus yesterday It said , Welcome to the Class of 2020, and to the Computer Science, Entry-Level major in the College of Natural Sciences, where you may begin your studies effective Fall 2016.
@loop2loop My daughter applied around 10/15. According to the report on the admissions process (page 35), I think you have to factor in class rank. Also, different portions of the SAT are weighted more heavily depending on the program. CNS weighs math more heavily than the Business School. Good luck to him!
