JULY?!?!??!?!??!!? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

thats not cool

damn i think UT housing is super expensive…

texasyall, my son was accepted to 9 schools total, and Texas was the cheapest for room and board out of all of them!

I thought they were expensive, too. Part of the cost is food and if you eat at the all you can eat locations at Jester and Kinsolving, it is incredibly cheap, like $4.00 or so per meal. I guess it all evens out.

how long does it take to get a contract after you pay your deposit? I paid like two weeks ago, is that too late? Also, are honors dorms still available? i REALLY want one!

oh and if any girls in LAH or any other honors program need a roommate, feel free to pm me/add me on facebook :)

@jackdaniels- It took nearly two months from the time I paid my $50 deposit in March until I finally got my contract. Hopefully it won’t take as long for you, but I highly doubt you will get honors housing. Sorry, but I hear Jester is fine so don’t worry

Should I call them and ask for my contract? I REALLY want honors housing, i’m not going to be happy anywhere else…

Calling and asking them for your contract won’t give you any better chance of getting honors housing. It all depends on when you originally paid the $50 deposit.

I didn’t think that all that many people would even want to be in honors! I don’t know, I don’t think they’re totally full right now. And I’m okay with rooming with whoever. I paid it maybe 2 weeks ago.

jackdaniels - Your spot in the queue for housing is based on when you paid your original housing application fee, not when you paid your housing deposit. You don’t get a contract until you pay your deposit, but your “place in line” or priority for housing is not based on that. Just remember to keep checking your housing status and watching your email. The contract will appear as a white button on your housing status page. There will not be much time to turn the contract around – their deadlines are just a few days. If you are under the age of 18, you will have to print it and sign it along with your parent/guardian and mail it back. If you are 18, you can do it electronically. After your contract is active, you can go in and indicate your preferences, I believe.

I just called in today and they said the same thing ValisMom said, thank you. They said something of a waitlist and how it’s not technically a waitlist because everyone gets accepted into housing off of it. I’m not sure what any of that means. But she said there’s a fair chance I will still get my first preference (honors) although I sent in my deposit only two weeks ago. She also told me that they are working on housing all summer? so there are quite a few people who have yet to apply apparently?

Anyone in kinsolving?!

When my daughter started in fall 2008, LAH mentioned that every incoming LAH student who had requested honors housing was able to get it.

The students with contracts have til early July to make their preferences, right? Then UT housing matches people and assigns rooms. Then they wait to see if anyone doesn’t show up - and kids who were temporarily put in lounges will get those spots. Then they wait to see if anyone shows up but leaves in the first few weeks - and kids who were temporarily put in lounges get those spots. I think it takes a good while before the housing is “set.”

I am currently e-mailing a possible roommate. We have decided that we want to put each other as preferred roommates. She wants to stay in Honors Housing and has chosen for dorm preference to override roommate preference. I chose for roommate preference to override dorm preference so that I might have a chance to stay with my new friend. I heard that it is possible for a non-Honors student to live in Honors Housing if their preferred roommate lives in Honors Housing. Is this true? What are my chances?

@smartone: The understanding is that if both roommates choose each other (use EID) and rank your choices in the same order, the roommate with the earlier housing application date sets your priority and that non-Honors roommates can room with Honors. Both of you should list Honors as your first choice housing – you cannot use it as a backup.

Does anyone know if we can stay in Whitis without being a member of a FIG? What if I put Whitis as a first choice without signing up for a FIG?

As I understand it, you HAVE to sign up for a FIG to stay in Whitis.

I have several friends who lived in Prather this past year so I’ve been there a lot. If you don’t have a corner room, you’ll get a pretty decent sized room. The halls are somewhat narrow yes, but as to the place where someone said that you have to turn sideways in the hallway to get through, they’re probably talking about a little conjunction section that joins two wings of the hallway. Each wing has its own water fountain and bathroom so you’ll get two fountains and bathrooms per floor. Floors are divided by gender. My friends that lived there really liked it so they’re living there again this fall.

hey thanks for finally shining some light on prather!!

Can someone rank which dorm is the loudest to the quietest? which dorm tends to party the most/ loud until very late, bad for studying?

I’m having duren and jacinto as my first and second choice. Heard they were great. I’m not used to live in a crowded place, and some silence would be very essential for me to study & sleep…

to make it worse, I have no siblings and therefore inexperienced in sharing a room with another person.

any inputs would be very appreciated! thx ;)
