The Update

I've recently had some changes to my academic achievements and blunders and all that. Feel free to voice opinions as long as they are not unreasonable or obnoxious.

Colleges of interest: Baylor, Rice, UCSD, UCLA, Vanderbilt.

Cumulative GPA: 3.75-8, somewhere around there.

SAT: Sophomore year, 1800, 640CR/580W/580M. I know, and I said I was a mathwhiz, it's because I hadn't finished the more difficult half of Algebra 2, only the Algebra 1 review part.

AP classes taken: Psychology (taking the test on Tuesday.)

Junior year schedule: AP Chemistry, AP English 3, AP US History, AP Environmental Science, PreAP Precalculus, PreAP Spanish 3, and PreAP Physics.

Senior year schedule: AP Physics, AP Biology, AP English 4, AP Economics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish 4, AP Spanish 5, that should be enough. I know that looks like torture, may need a reduction.

NOTE: My school operates on this odd semester basis. A full course lasts 18 weeks, certain courses such as Calculus AB are 9 weeks, and then I go into BC unlike most schools where I would just go to BC. This is also what enables me to take Spanish 4 and 5 in the same year.

Random things I've done that may be of interest to a college, or may not:

I wrote a book in my spare time over last summer.
I wrote a computer program with a long list of colleges and majors, as well as other future predictions. I posted that on this website, some of you may know about it. Someone suggested that I send that to colleges.

Writing that you wrote a book over the summer is only viable if the book was actually published, or you received some recognition for it

What was the computer program?

How did you get on the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine?

I explained the computer program up there. Ask specific questions I guess, if there is something you want to know.

I was sent a letter inviting me to the NYLF medicine thing. You have to have a 3.3 GPA or better and there was one other requirement which I forget.

One other thing, the book, I won the Creative Writing Award for that book. Apparently I showed passion past getting a 102 in the course.

Well, you can't take both BC and AB Calculus exams in the same year. Two AP Spanish classes? I thought there was only 1 exam.

Anyway, I think you're in fairly good shape, maybe get the SAT score a bit higher. Also, don't forget about your SAT Subject Tests; you'll need those.

Kyt, please read the NOTICE. Thanks for the advice, I'm definitely taking the SAT fall of senior year or spring next year. I'm not going to stick with my sophomore year score.

I don't really need input on what classes I can take, I know the rules at my school, thank you though.

Alright, more input everyone.

Anyone??????????????

Seems like you know what you are doing and that you don't really need any new advice

a true math "whiz" even without being taught material would have done better than 600.

hey now, lolok don't start a pointless arguement

Thank sr6622. I have a reply in mind to that but I'm going to leave it alone.

Let's get back on topic. I do need input, I know what I'm doing but multiple brains are better than one right. Besides many of you are juniors and seniors who are already in the admissions process.

So come on guys, feedback please.

Sorry if I sounded abrupt in my post about the classes, but I just get annoyed when people tell me I can't take Spanish 4 and 5 the same year, when I clearly stated my school operates on a semester coures basis.

Here's feedback: your SAT is too low.

Texas, I never said that you couldn't take Spanish 4 and 5 in the same year. I stated that there is an AP Spanish 4 and AP Spanish 5. I was saying that why is there 2 AP Spanish classes if there is only 1 AP Spanish exam?

AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Lit.

Texasmathwhiz:

Baylor: ?
Rice: Reach
UCSD: Reach (out of state)
UCLA: Reach (out of state)
Vanderbilt: Reach

cool, ur taking AP Psych on Tues?? Me too!! I am psyched (lol), but ive only done a sort of self-study and a pretty sorry one at that, just reading the Barron's review book and all. lol, wishing u well on the exam!

y both AB and BC... that's kinda... unreasonably weird. i'v never seen a person take both AB and BC the same year.. i mean... maybe junior AB and then senior BC... but it doesnt make sense to take both: AB is slower and covers 1/2 year of college math, BC is quicker and covers a whole year of college math. so 2nd semester in AB, u'd be doing the same thing u did for BC around december.

and what is "AP English 3"? A made up class? There's AP English Lit and AP English Language, there's AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Lit, but why would your school call it AP Spanish 4?

AP English 3 is AP English Language. The courses are commonly given level numbers. Spanish 1, Spanish 2, PreAP Spanish 3, AP Spanish 4, AP Spanish 5. They cover the same topics.

None of you need to worry about my school, it is accredited and a highly honored school. I don't imagine colleges will have an issue with the course titles considering the courses follow state standards and are common to curriculums of many schools in Dallas.

I'm asking for feedback on my statistics, not of whether or not my school's system makes sense to you.

And, why would I make up a class, that is just idiocy. AP Calculus AB and BC are successive at my school, not repetitive like other schools, I don't really get it either but that's how things are.

Oh and one more thing. Someone said I was a reach for the two UCs I mentioned due to my lack of state residency.

My parents have actually owned a house there, which I lived in for most of my life. I've heard that ownership of the house won't be enough to be considered residency unless I move into it. So, if I plan to attend one of the UCs I will be moving in, simple as that.

u have to live instate for 2 years before don't u? and even tho what lolok said was fairly blunt, it is true, i think YOU can do better than a 580 with algebra I background... imho, the sat's don't cover that much further than algebra
