Was the cutoff like 80 then? Does anyone know if theyre still taking people off the waitlist? Or does the fact that they published the list of finalists mean they are sure everyone is going to camp and they don’t need to take any alternates?

Lol all the finalists from NY are from stuy.

Yeah, I noticed… It’s kinda funny, because I’ve heard of some of the highschools on the list, whereas my highschool looks so… plain, sompared to the stuys and the Sanat Monicas, etc.

Sorry, but I think that since they published, they’re not taking anymore. Better luck next year. :)

any people goes to the USABO training camp also plan to go to the Science Olympiad in George Washington University on May 30 to May 31 ?
My son has to fly to DC on Thursday, then come back on Sunday. Then fly again on Monday to DC again. He is below 18 and can not stay in hotel alone. I don’t think USABO can accommodate him on Sunday night.
Any one of you have the same problem ?

I did science Olympiad & I don’t like how they take the top team, not the top students. I was with a not-so-great team, but I got 1st in cell bio & 2nd in health science. But 'cuz my team was bad ( I was the only one who medaled, aside from my partners), I don’t get to go. Maybe next year I’ll go with a better team.

I hope your son beats the team from Wisconsin.

Yes, it is tough if there is no enough student interested in science competition. I remember 3 years ago, my son’s school participated the first time. They got 10th place in State although my son won the first place in entomology and fossil. They start to draw interest from other students and recruit people to join Jets club. Now they have two teams to compete in the regional before the state competition. They are still quite weak in building event but much better in other events. They went to the national competition last year in Wichita state. I hope that you can organize the recruiting in the beginning of the school year and your school will join the national competition one day.

yay TEAMS! Stuy must go down! yeah. They’re a lot of arrogant people there.

I didn’t say that. I have ABSOLUTELY nothing toward any of the finalists from stuy. I look forward to meeting them in June.

My school doesn’t have an SO team, so I went with one from a nearby school. Apparently, another school even closer to mine got 2nd place at state and lost by a hair: If I’d been on their team, they’d have gone to nationals. I might start one in my school my senior year.

Those are my very arrogant opinions lol. Guess where I go to ![]()
P.S. I do have stuy friends btw in case you were wondering.

Hi.
I downloaded the 2008 Semifinal questions from the CEE website but it’s password protected. Can any of you give me the password or the questions?

hmm…i didn’t know they released tht. if it’s password protected i think only your teacher can access it. so, if your teacher has administered the test this year ask him/her

Yeah, I had the same problem.

Only 2 weeks 'till finals… Imm excited!

does anyone from the oc/southern ca know where open exams are given for next yr?

Open exams are administered through your highschool. Get a teacher to register your school. Information is at cee.org.

besides campbells how to prepare for the open and semi exams?

want to get to camp

and any suggestons for studying campbells?
right now, im just taking notes but its like 5 pgs a chapter
finally, are there certain units that are emphasized on the open and semis over others?

thanks

Suggested texts are listed on the CEE website.
The IBO website has the syllabus that outlines material covered on the tests.

hey want to make camp too, does sleeping with campbells under your pillow actually work? i heard it helps

Not quite, you seem to have misinterpreted the rumors about sleeping with Campbell…

^LMAO

Hmm…after taking this year’s open and sf exam for the first (and last
) time, I’d say campbell’s + lodish is the way to go. There weren’t any exclusive “Raven’s-only” questions on plants, but A LOT of stuff found only in lodish (SDS, nieuwkoop center)…so if you read those two a few times over (w/ more emphasis on campbell’s) you should be god.

Actually, a lot of us aren’t particularly fond of Lodish’s book. And hell, I even work for the guy, so that’s saying something.
