DankStarbursts: aw i got a 28??? darn i was one point from passing. oh well. now i’ll have time to stage my world domination plans instead of studying for the semifinals

@Peach: that actually sounds better than studying for the semis. When are they going to be put into action?

So, yay Semifinalists! I guess we’ll be cramming Campbell’s for the next 2 weeks or so =D
I actually barely made the cutoff with a 32. Did anyone here score the 43?

hah i ACTUALLY got a 34…not great but okay nonetheless :D

damn…a 33? Must have made some baaaaaaaaad mistakes (although it should be a 34 since that goiter one had two answers)

arg my teacher still hasn’t told me what I got…

Go ask! XD

Since I’m in bio club, I emailed my teacher asking her whether she could have the scores ready for today’s lunch meeting :]

ahhh!!! I don’t know!!! I have to rely on cram school to get results -.-
I hope I got in… then this will become my only award on my awards list.
"What a selfish reason to get in… "

34 :X Thought I had nailed like a 40 for sure…oh well. Someone else from my school got in, but I don’t know what her score was…cool though because it’s my school’s first year taking the test.

So, uh, how do you prep for the second round?

I went into my teacher’s room today to ask for my score, and I saw he had the teacher resource center open on his computer. The problem is, everyone’s but my score was showing, and you had to scroll to see mine. I was just about to reach for the mouse when he turns around and hands me the paper printout of the scores. I scanned down for my name, and I saw that I got a 43.

And then I couldn’t stop screaming/shaking/hugging people for the next three hours. Though now that I calmed down, it seems much less impressive than I thought it would… especially since I’ll probably still fail the semifinals anyway, as that tends to happen D:

Congrats 1nkbl0tch and everyone! So how are you all studying for the semi exam? Just reading Campbell’s like mad?

yeah but i doubt i will make it tho…anyone heard of someone studying for 2 weeks and making it?

i passed the open exam, but i highly HIGHLY doubt that i’ll do very well on the semi exam. how impressive is it to pass the open exam? i’m debating whether or not i should update colleges on this…

1nkbl0tch: wow thats great how much did u study?

Sweet I just found out I made it! But I won’t know my score until tomorrow. Glad to know my studying these last few weeks won’t have been for nothing!

Thank you and congrats to everyone! :]

I got a 97.25 on the semis last year after cramming for a week straight, so I got extremely mad at myself for not studying sooner. I’ve been studying since this summer and reading just about every bio book I can get my hands on. Hopefully it’ll be enough for semis this year, but I have no idea. I think the best thing to do is to memorize Campbell and read a very good/comprehensive/detailed anatomy book (I have Martini but everyone says it sucks), since anatomy counts for 25%.

I found USABO to be the most secect Olympiad event. The other Olympiad events like USPho, USCho, USAMO, they post the semifinalist, finalist in the web site. They also post the question and solution for the problem. You can not find any information about this for USABO unless you are teacher.
Also biology seems to be the most difficult subject. Not because biology is more difficult than physics, chemistry and Math, but you either know the anwser for biology or you don’t. It is not like Physics, you know simple formular and principal and you can derive other thing.
I really like to see the final test questions for previous year. My son got into semi-final in last two years. But never got into final. This year is his last chance. He told me he got 40 in semi-final this year. But I doubt he will have any chance in the final.

Does anyone know how many semifinalists there are this year?
I’m guessing its not the 10% or 500?

rxhu123,
My child told me that the highest score is 41/50 in nation. Your son got 40 which is an excellent score and he can ask the school teacher to find the old national exams.

its a mass effort, luckily i have no classes (basically) this semester, so I can spend up to 8 hours a day studying. Today Im going through a third of campbell’s…
