Anyone else get it? Hands down the most arrogant piece of work I've ever laid my eyes on.
Only viewbook I've gotten that's specially sealed to make sure 'unworthy' hands don't smudge their pride. Highlights are Stanford ranking themselves as a country in the number of athletes from Stanford who've won Olympic medals and a quote saying that "Stanford students write novels in their 'spare time', but don't brag about it"
Yeah, I still applied there.

The thing I do not like about Stanford is its arrogance and more specifically, its inability to offer need-blind admission process to internationals. Having its endowment almost identical as Yale, Stanford making any excuse is not an option. I find a sense of hubris on its financial aid viewbook. Many of my Canadian friends share similar view of Stanford.

And yea, I still applied there.

the purpose of the viewbook is to make people think you are the ****, arrogance is almost a necessity

I thought the viewbook was quite nice...

In comparison to the viewbook I got from Washington University in St. Louis, I found Stanford's viewbook rather arrogant. And in I.B.'s Theory of Knowledge before Christmas, the teacher showed us a video of Stanford's notorious prison experiment...

I just don't like the excessive focus on ranking and the tone in Stanford's viewbook.

lots of universities put their viewbooks in special, sealed envelopes..?

^yeah i was about to say looool. my columbia one was sealed too..

i liked it :)

...mine didn't come sealed or in any sort of envelope. not that that actually matters...

i liked it too.

and that quote? it actually goes (in full): "Stanford students win national titles, produce plays, and write novels in their 'spare time.' But they don't boast about these things generally. It's about the joy of accomplishment, not winning bragging rights, and this contributes to the friendly atmosphere of the University."

i liked that quote :D that's what i want in a school.

funny how when the quote given in it's entirety doesn't seem half as bad at the small portion thewolf posted.

Lol, I liked it as well. The quote as well as the school in general! I also really liked the fact that 4% of students are Alaskan Native and American Indian!
