Hello! I was wondering if anyone can give me any information on the village. Anything positive or negative would be helpful! For example is the area quiet for studying, how big are the rooms, is there wifi or Ethernet? Thanks in advance!!!

i been there once, quite isolated

I registered for housing there only a few days ago since I had a really good off-campus (read: cheaper) apartment lined up but that whole thing fell through and as a transfer, my only options were The Village, the University Town Center, and The Transfer Community. I need to have my own bedroom and I needed somewhere close to classes so that was an easy decision.

It looks like a nice place from what I can see but I’m wondering what kind of students are normally there? Are transfer students usually more quiet/studious?

I’m going to live there and I’m a transfer!! I went to go look by there during orientation and it seems like a nice place to get away when you need quiet and peace! I’m looking forward to moving in!

I drove by there too during orientation! Looked like a nice, quiet, somewhat secluded area. Good for reading and studying. Also, it’s not too far from the fitness centers, so that’s a plus.

Bad news for me and anyone else that didn’t get assigned a room yet, I went down there today to look at the rooms and when I talked to the lady at The Village’s housing office, she explained to me that they were massively overbooked with transfer students.

They have two waitlists just for The Village with a total of about 70 students on both lists. The lady said that it was basically impossible for me and most of the other people on the waitlist to get into The Village so they are currently scrambling around to find alternate housing to put us in. She said the most likely place we would end up is in the transfer community (Porter college) and if that wouldn’t work, then we would be in our “residential college” that we got assigned which in my case would be Crown college.

I guess as long as I get on-campus housing and decent roommates, I’ll be happy. If you haven’t registered for housing yet, then call the housing office to see what you should do.

You just ruined my summer, bro. I seriously don’t know what I would do if I don’t get into the Village. Everywhere else is simply too expensive.

I sent in my application early and I’ve already received the village as my housing assignment! Just goes to show thatmext year you should apply early!

I applied the first day… still haven’t heard anything.

Lakerace did you check the housing application site? It should say your housing assignment at the top right corner! https://sho-prod.ucsc.edu/shs/common/login/stu_login.cfm?redirect=%2Fshs%2Fstudents%2Findex.cfm%3F&CFID=116269&CFTOKEN=96499350

All it shows is the Summer session info. Below it still says pending application.
