what did you guys do to convince the admissions to take you off the waitlist?

I donât know what you can do to âconvinceâ them to take you off the wait list, I think the best thing is to keep in touch with the school and let them know that you are still serious about wanting to go there

hi. i am wait listed to two schools and was wondering what are my chances. I know it depends on the school and how many people they enroll etc. well i am really nervous and was wondering if I should be applying for other schools. I am quite disappointed in this news and I find out in April if I am excepted off of the wait list. If someone could explain to me the chances, how it works (very specifically) and what is a good way to have the attention of the admission officers.

education11122 - Please read this entire thread. Itâs long, I know . . . but it will teach you everything you need to know about the mechanics of the waitlist. And there is no good way to âget the attention of the admission officers.â In any event, itâs unnecessary. If they have a spot for you, theyâll call you.

If your family is full pay (or close to it), then, yes, you should consider applying to other schools. My experience has been that many, many schools still have space, but few, if any, have financial aid funds still available. Make a list of schools you might be interested in and start making phone calls.

Hello, I am currently on the waiting list at PA & DA on the East Coast. If I am taken off the waiting list, then when do I hear and how? I understand that the accepted applicants have to reply by April 10th. Does that mean I may here the following weekend of April 13-14th? Also, how do they notify me, email, phone, FedEx? How many people are on the waiting list? Does PA & DA over enroll? What is their yield rate? What are the chances of being taken off the waiting list? This means a lot to me, any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

I donât know much, but I imagine that the waitlist is very large at PA and DA. I would just try googling around some (more). Good luck!

In comparison to other schools, DA & PA have particularly unforgiving WL. In recent years few-to-no kids have been taken off.

Suggest you read this thread in its entirety to get a understanding of how WL works.

Because an unexpected high yield, Andover over-enrolled 20+ students last year. I think thatâs why they admitted fewer this year. They usually enroll about 350 students each year. With this yearâs 402 admitted, assuming they could reach last yearâs yield which is 84% or a little lower, theyâd enroll about 335 students. Thatâs probably their goal for this year considering the over enrollment last year. A yield of 84% is pretty ambitious though IMO. They may or may not keep at that level this year, so I think thereâs still a small chance that they may go to their WL around April 10.

Should i ask my school counselor to contact the admissions office at the school i was waitlisted at?

What are my chances?

^^^@denial: @GMT gave you the answer in post #327.

justgolfâYES!!

@etondad Can I ask why? I would understand if the counselor has some sort of connection to the school, but otherwise it seems kind of pushy.

@etondad and @stargirl3 I was asking because i thought it might seem pushy and that i might be seen as a pest

It IS pushy. Bc if you are nice and meek --you will most likely remain forever on the WL or at least until they close it. Now I am not saying one should be a pest, or do something silly, like send brownies, (Heaven forfend!!) but having your school call and say âthis kid is great and you really should consider her if a spot opens upâ is key. I can assure you that a number of other kids on the WL are doing that.

Now which kid stands a better chance do you think? The kid whose school is vocally behind him or her or the kid who is hoping to be remembered but doesnât want to seem over eager? Which kid does the school think really really wants to come there and which does the school think that if they donât get off the WL it wonât be such a big deal to him or her?

Exactly.

Thanks for all the info. Those of you who have success in the coming days please post what you did. We will do the same. My son is both waiting and dancing at the moment. We are heading off to some revisit days and doing what we can to get off the wait list at one school. My son is doing the personal updates, writing some emails and some letters and I am making a few phone calls.

I have a questionâŠhow does the Ten Schools Association have anything to do with this? Do the schools compare their wait lists? Do they compare their admit lists.

I think I need to clarify. My son was offered admission at three of his schools if we withdrew his application for FA and agreed that we would not apply during his subsequent years. The one school where he is wait listed is need blind, hence we have opted to continue the pursuit.

So here are my statsâŠ

85% percentile on SSAT
Straight Aâs in all advanced classes at an already advanced public school
Took honors Latin
Now taking Spanish at my new International school in the Cayman Islands
State Rugby Champ
Nationally Ranked debater
Pretty sociable and a people person
Am now learning Tenor Sax
Go to an International school in the Cayman Islands
Have a rec who was a former Exonian who is now a CEO of a big company (to be left unnamed :P)

Wait listed at Deerfield, Andover, Exeter
What are my chances of getting of the WL?

P.S. My recommender called Exeter after my wait list decision and ACTUALLY talked to the 9th grade admissions officerâŠ

Thoughts?

No the schools do not compareâhowever, it is a very small world. What individuals do may be a different story. To be sure your childâs present school has a vested interest in making certain that all of their students completely adhere to the rules.

Is it possible that Iâm actually on a financial aid waitlist, or would I know? I need a full scholarship, which stinks. :(
