So any thoughts on BS acceptance but FA wait listed
Yeahā¦ We had a 10,000 dollar down payment.
Did the BS come up with the other 40ish?
If FA wait listed and IF we get a call, am I in the position to ask for a higher amount or just take the first amount they tell us?
Oh Iām not talking about FA Iām talking about the security deposit.
So u put down the deposit without knowing if u would get FA?
I didnāt need financial aid. I was expanding on skiās post. It wasnāt in response to your comment.
You can certainly ask. Whether that has any effect is a different story.
I have read this entire thread and didnāt see this question addressedā¦If you do get off a waitlist, how do the schools notify you? Phone call? Email? Snail mail?
@momonymous I think phone call to the parent. Somewhere I read that the schools want the answer (enrollement) immediately or within 24 hours, etc, so that they can call another student if the answer is no.
Definitely not snail mail.
Thanks @payn4wardā, Guess Iād better start answering my phone then, haha!
@payn4wardā is correct. They call you, gauge interest and then expect a quick response so they can mail you all the enrollment documents. For FP, I believe they expect the deposit check fairly quickly as well. I was surprised how familiar I was with the area codes of the schools so I know which phone calls to pick up!
I live outside of US and didnāt receive snail mail yet, about the decision(WLāed). Iām starting to get a little impatient. Is there anyone who knows whatās included in the WL decision letter from Andover/Exeter? Is there anything Iām NOT supposed to do, i.e. email the admissions office?
Also, THANK GOODNESS I was accepted in a local boarding school which does not have a deposit whatsoever, only $50 fee for getting my name on the āenrollā list. Tuition fee is paid in summer(late June/early July). Iām going to stay on the wait list until I canāt!
There isnāt really anything included in a waitlist letter except itās saying that you were waitlistedā¦
I received electronic notifications from all schools except for one. After two days I called the admissions office of that school and they sent me an electronic notification.
@hopeforall The snail mail letter says exactly the same thing as electronic notificationā¦ With most schools, you should email or call the admission office to let them know that you want to stay on the waitlist.
We discovered this forum last year when my child was waitlisted after googling āprep school wait listā. I wanted to take a moment to share a happy result. My child was waitlisted at two HADES schools and accepted to two other fine schools. We revisited the other schools and got very close to sending in a deposit ($1500). In the meantime my child decided to stay on the two waitlists. In each case she wrote them a handwritten letter about why she wanted to attend their school and what she had accomplished since submitting her application. For her first choice, she wrote that she would immediately accept an offer of admission if pulled from the waitlist. I also called each school to see if there was anything I should know about her application that would help her if she ever reapplied. One AO said she was their top female academic applicant but there was no space for her after they met their āinstitutional needsā - faculty students, legacies, siblings, athletic recruits, geographical diversity, etc. This was a relief to hear and my child appreciated this candor. Sometimes the choices the schools make have nothing to do with your child. Three days before the April deposit deadline, I got a call from the head of admissions at her top school. She was pulled off the waitlist and is happily enrolled. I know this is not typical but it can happen. The odds are slim but it can occur. We forgot to pull her off the other waitlist and received a letter from that school as late as late July saying she was still on their list. Thank you for letting a lurker come out to share their story. It may be an exception but it happened. I am not saying the process was without frustration, tears and angst but it did work out.
@TooManyNovels Thank you for sharing your story and Congratulations to you and your daughter!
