@petrin, congratualations! How very exciting! So what school will he be attending in the fall?
Just notified that Middlesex is over enrolled for 10th Grade Boarding Girls
Should I now accept that it is too late for them to call now? Or is it known for them to call April 11/12?
@ mathmanā¦were you asking about Middlesex?
No, just any school in general.
It is unlikely that they will call before midweek, but certainly not before Monday.
I think it really depends upon the school. If they have still have not formally notified that they āare not going to wait listā then I assume there still is a shot. You can always reach out to your AO and see. Your circumstances with the WL are the same that my DD had last year. It was incredibly difficult to remain on the wait list and not have closure. We really had to convince her to try again and reapply. It was much more successful this time around. Hang in there
I have 7 schools left that did not formally say that they are ānot going to the wait listā, so I have a very, very small flame of hope, if it even exists. Thank you and congrats to your daughter! @dreamcatcher3
Anybody hear anything from some of the Mass āhidden gemā schools (Lawrence Acad/St Markās/Cushing etcā¦)?
@petrin, congrats, for the FA, did you just take the amount they offered you or did you negotiate at all for a higher amount?
The wait can drag on to August. Iāve observed ādevelopment caseā applicants who apply in the summer be admitted over kids on the WL.
If you are resolved to start BS this fall and have a bird in the hand, then take it.
Nope, no birds in hand. All of them flew away on March 10th. @GMTplus7
@GMTplus7 can you explain ādevelopment caseā
A ādevelopment caseā is a deep-pocketed family that is prepared to donate $20+ million to renovate a building or build a new addition to a dorm. Just about all schools have, in addition to an Office of Admissions, an Office of Development.
Development staff have the job of researching (i.e. stalking) applicant families to determine which ones might be fruitful donors.
FYI. These offices have a small army of staff.

Hi @mathman1201, Iām so sorry that youāre in this limbo. Do the schools know that you donāt have any other offers?? You may want to try to have a phone conversation with each of them next week, to let them know that and also to see if you can get any more insight, now that theyāre wrapping up the process. After those calls, you may decide to take yourself off the WL at a few of the schools (ones that seem less likely, or youāre less interested in) and focus your efforts on 3 or 4 instead of all 7. Donāt make yourself crazy. Then, you just wait. June (when the $ is due) and August are typical times when people may drop out. It doesnāt mean that opens up a spot, but you never know. I donāt want to hold out false hope, because the chances really are very slim, but because you havenāt signed another contract you can afford to stay on a few WLs and see what happens. Call them next week, and ask them how they would prefer that you stay in touch. Should you email them in late May? Call in a couple of weeks to check in? Just see what they say. Then put it in the back of your mind and finish this year strong, and enjoy your summer
@Goat4fun a ādevelopment caseā refers to an applicant that is recommended by the Development Office at the school - usually a legacy, big donor, board connection (or all of those combined).
I called/emailed/notified that I didnāt have any acceptances, and none of them gave real insight. I guess Iāll just wait it outā¦ :-/
Soā¦ wish I thought to get your input before A10, but Iām wonderingā¦
about the WL post A10ā¦
Hypothetically speaking- What would you do if you got into a great local private school - very intense, very successful, but not really the right fit -BUT it IS better than the local school option. Full FA received. You decided to accept the seat, then after A10 you get a call from your top choice (hypothetical) - NMH - who had you on WL for FA (need at least 80%) and is now offering FA.
What would you do?? Is the contract more important than the right fit? Or is the best fit environment more important than oneās word? Have you heard what other people have done in the past? Do these schools see this happen a lot?
In the non-hypothetical - what would you do about notifying your WLd top choice? Tell them that weāve enrolled but would still choose them if given the opportunity?
@annieoakley People do change their minds, lose their deposit, and choose different schools or decide not to attend a BS at all. Mid June or July when the tuition is due, there are people who back out from the bill. So you wouldnāt be alone.
I donāt know with FA ā¦ if you didnāt pay any deposit your monetary loss will be minimal if you back out.
You can always inquire NMH if their FA students are fully enrolled next week.
I hope that they (NMH) will let you know soon either way (FA fully enrolled or not) so that you can settle the decision and move on.
Focus on the choices that you have right now (LPS or private day) and commit to one of those. Then, if the NMH WL comes through, you can decide if you want to lose your deposit.
Has anyone heard anything about Milton? On WL and hoping they didnāt hit their yield. Also - got email that St. Georges will not be going to their WL as of 4/10.
Historically Milton hits their yield or over-enrolls, sadly. Iām hoping they get to their WL for you @waitinlistdad
