nspeds, yes, I was not about to. For Ted Kennedy is speaking on the radio at the moment and I must go so I may imbibe on my own tears.

So wait, is it ok to drink now? you guys figure that out yet?

I still don't see what the problem is. Alcohol solves everything.

"Fallacy of questionable cause. You are assuming that because genius has, at times, been simultaneous with intoxication that intoxication was therefore the cause of that genius. But have you any real evidence that such genius was not present to begin with?"

Evidence is in first hand experience. Try drugs and you will get it.
Art, music, spirituality, philosophy, you will get it. Not know it or think you know it. You will get it.

Who is to say I have not? I have been drunk on several occasions in my former years. And I get it, alright: it was perpetuating self-delusion and the biggest waste of my time.

Other than the straw man logical fallacy, which has been completely absent from your posts

Find one instance where I used the straw-man fallacy, and do explain. Every remark I made was in direct response to the statements made by Eschatos.
Perhaps you just have the straw-man thing on your mind because, after all, you just committed this fallacy yourself. I never once indicated that I was against legalization, or failed to recognize the possible merits of it. All I indicated was that, with the way the world is at the present moment, we are, in fact, contributing to global human rights violations via our demand for drugs; and even if we can eradicate this by legalization, intoxication will remain a nefarious practice so long it produces the adverse psychological effects on the individual and community that it invariably does.

please tell me no one here is bashing a glass of wine with dinner

Philosophy? HA! The dominant philosophy is hardly practicable under the influence of such substances. You may smoke whatever and read Sartre while drinking wine, but that is not philosophy.

This conversation makes me want to drink

yea .. I'm gonna go drinking tonight hahaha should be fun times.

More may follow later if I have time, which I probably won't. But for now...

Your straw man:

After I read that, I was thinking what Eschatos posted in his/her defense:

[quote]
I never ever said anythign to the effect that "Fitzgerald+alcohol=literary genius" or "Freud+blow=psychoanalysis." I merely said that it is evident that they were contributing factors to those persons thought processes. I never said that substance abuse was the root cause.

Regarding my post:

IT WAS SATIRE.

Many of the posts you made seemed to indicate that intoxication is terrible. For example, you recently wrote:

There is a very big difference between thinking something is a bad personal choice and thinking it's nefarious: the former can be legalized, the latter is generally deemd too awful to be tolerated. So because I read your posts as coming from that mindset, I felt my post was reasonable. But also,

IT WAS SATIRE. I AM ALLOWED TO EXAGGERATE.

drugs, but not so much alcohol, can be powerful catalysts in achieving higher states of conciousness. theres a theory eating mushrooms played a part in humans evolving from apes.

the whole field of philosophy was born from drug use. there's nothing wrong with that. drugs are an essential part of the human experience. the way our modern society percieves "drugs" is way off...

I focus on school to the point of overkill. Today my professor was talking about some scientist shooting down UFO's with a death ray, and aliens dealing with world governments to destroy the human race. It was pretty interesting stuff. The guy is like 75 so I'm pretty sure he's gone senile.

holy ****, some of you guys write (on a messageboard nonetheless) some of the driest, most ponderous sentences i've ever read on the internet. "quidnuncs?" please.

Apparently you know nothing about natural selection. Unless eating mushrooms in some way caused a genetic mutation that was favored in warding-off extinction -- this is implausible.
