...and one derived from poor induction.

This is technical, since it depends on your definition of 'argument.' Thus far, I am not impressed.

ahah nspeds, do you have aim? i'd love to continue our conversation, as well as find someone with whom i can argue. (no sarcasm)

I c... welcome back nspeds! you were popular once with your arguments and now you start again...

(Note: Obviously i'm not making any argument, ok)

Besides, I wonder what is your major and have you already transferred successfully, if so which university?

Hey, I hear your mom is even better. Ohhhhhhhh! What now?!

To nspeds

Cool... I am also interested in philosophy. I have finished one philosophy in critical thinking-logic (Just like basic math) and currently taking another philosophy called Western and Eastern Ethics which is very very interesting... they discussion about Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus' ideas on "what is the key to a good life" and then we are studying on Judeo-Christian, later we will look at the Eastern Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism and also studying some modern philosophers, too.

I will probably take more philosophy courses when it is possible and I wonder what required courses do you have to take as a philosophy majors. I'm glad if you could offer me some information on this because I also plan to minor in philosophy.

I think you would find it more effective to ask your department this question rather than nspeds, as the exact requirements, of course, differ across schools. Typically, for a minor, a class in logic, ethics, and a certain number of history of Philosophy courses are required, in addition to some electives.

Your Philosophy department teaches courses on Eastern thought? Interesting, yet odd.

Ditto.

I am taking some odd courses next semester:
Indexical Meaning of Thought
Philosophy of Mind
History of Modern Philosophy
Moral Reasoning
Philosophy of Science

Janel89, why studying Eastern system is odd, Eastern has philosophy system, too and philosophy majors probably study as many philosophical systems as possible. Well, at least learning new ideas is good.

nspeds, are those major courses? And you are taking all of the at the same time... man, you must be interested in philosophy so much.

So much so that I am willing to spend six to seven years of my life earning a Ph.D in it and then trying to earn enough money so I can buy a box from which I can beg for more money : )

ahhahaahh ..... :D

Western Philosophy dominates the field, and it is odd, because, it is rare that a school offer Eastern Philosophy courses.

Eastern Philosophy is distinct in a few different ways. The primary difference is that it doesn't follow a logical approach.
Also, Eastern phil is usually looked upon as carrying more of a religious or spiritual incentive; whereas western phil is concerned with objective, or scientific fact via deduction -- eastern phil seems to be concerned with offering an aesthetic or humanistic outlook on life.

Have you taken a course in Eastern philosophy course yet? I think you have some biased view there...

I have not taken a course. But I have read plenty of it on my own throughout high school and part of college.

I am not in any way denigrating Eastern Philosophy. I am simply saying that it is usually separated from Western because they carry a different fundamental purpose.

Not necessarily (to the former claim); continental "philosophy" and postmodern "philosophy" both eschew the logical method.

Much to their own detriment.
