Very, very few of us will get in, most likely, considering that's about half the entire freshman class!
How do we get there? If someone knows...
Tell me =)
Although, I never really expected to be on the waitlist (and I'm still pretty sure I'd rather have been rejected--none of that stupid false hope), so can someone tell me how it works? Do you send in your deposit at another school and act like you're gonna go there and all, and then halfway through may/june suddenly change your mind? o.O

I think people can get off the waitlist as late as July, so you do deposit at another school and wait.

My memory is fuzzy, but I think Yale took around 45-50 off the waitlist last year. In the couple of years previous to that, the waitlist wasn't used at all or only a couple people came off. Yale's yield was higher than expected for several years and in order to control the numbers, I think they accepted fewer outright last year and relied more on the waitlist. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet they're following the same strategy this year.

Let Yale know it's still your #1 choice and that you will definitely accept if taken off the waitlist. I suspect who comes off the waitlist depends on who accepts. For instance, if fewer than expected people from your state or your extracurricular or whatever accept, you're more likely to get in.

-laughs- I come from Hawaii, and the guy who came here said they accept only, like, 15 people from my state XD I think it's unlikely any of the punahou/iolani (expensive private schools) will turn down their Ivy acceptance... bah, oh well.
Is it badly seen to write about how much you love the place/want to go there/etc, well seen, or just ignored?

Let's all join the waitlist...

Well if it helps any, IF I am accepted to Yale I'm most likely going to Vanderbilt anyway. It's still up in the air, but I like Vanderbilt a lot.

i have also been waitlisted. is there any way to find out how far down we are on the waitlist?

Ted leo--they say that you are not a certain spot on the waitlist, but rather that they will re-evaluate all waitlisted applications when they see how many spots they have.

omg more months of indecision (waitlisted at harvard and yale)

I'll join you guys in the waiting..... (Into Penn and Berkeley though. :))

waitlisted? join my facebook group and vent about it

Well, I got waitlisted, but I got EA into Harvard and RD Brown and Dartmouth ( for the ivies ) I am going to Brown!! It is amazing how things really work out at the end. Do not get to hung up on the fact of being waitlisted. Who knows? Maybe you will be turning down their offer at the end because you find out that you really fell in love with some other school!!!! Just look carefully and visit!!

i got waitlisted as well, but i got into harvard and brown's plme, so i'm happier than i could imagine, probably not going to take waitlist. good luck everyone!

859?????? no way...i had no idea it was that many ppl. there goes my soul plummeting again...

i dont mean to sound snobbish, but i encourage those that are on the waitlist to take their names off if they are going to keep them on "just to see" if they got in and those individuals have alternatives they are going to pursue regardless of their waitlist status. for many of us, yale is our dream school and we are now in a difficult position being waitlisted. it really upsets me when people join the waitlist just to boost their egos but i guess theres nothing ican do but hope for the best come JULY. ahh.

I feel your pain. This is a really selfish and cruel world, for the most part. Communism fails because it does not take into account human greed otherwise it sounds wonderful in theory......Well, I digress...
