This is just to see who was waitlisted, and to find out who is staying on or not. I was waitlisted, but I don't think I'll stay on if I get into my other choices, because I don't like the shot in the dark that being waitlisted is.

I'm waitlisted too...does anything bad happen if you're waitlisted? Like do you have to pay anything or rescind applications elsewhere? I mean, if there's no price to pay for it, why not stay on? And maybe I'll get my dad to fly us out to Pasadena over spring break, that would be cool. :)

But yeah, I'll probably stay on if there aren't any negative side effects

well, it would be in your best interest to accept somewhere else in the meantime. of course, that could mean losing your deposit at the other school if you choose to stay on the waitlist, get admitted, and decide on caltech instead of your previous choice...

but most deposits run, oh...100-200usd. it isn't nothing but it's probably worth losing that money to go to caltech;)

Well, for me, Caltech isn't my first choice, and so if I get in somewhere else that I ranked higher, I won't go on to give someone who really, really wants to get in....

yeah, if caltech isn't your top choice when the rest of your decisions come in, well...its not worth it at that point.

still holding out on a couple of schools, i'll be deciding closer to the deadline.

I'm staying on...Caltech r0x0rz.

Yeah, I'm almost certainly staying on. I really think that Caltech is the best school for me, so it's worth sticking through it.

How do they determine who gets off the waitlist first? Do they just reconsider all the applications?

Yep. We go through the list and offer spots to the strongest candidates. The list currently is unranked.

I got waitlisted too. Ben do you have any idea how many intls there would be on the list?

You might read my thoughts on the other wait-list thread on the wait list as a wait-list "alum"
