**The Waitlisted Thread**

I'm an international student on the waitlist... I'm wondering about what happened last year... about the whole LAX scandal thing. can anyone please tell me about it?

kpex - they won't reject admitted students - we had an overmatriculation of around 50 people in the Class of 2009 and have been working to make space for them as they hit particular classes ever since :-D. They also stopped a planned renovation to turn an East Campus dorm into departmental space to acommodate the extra students.

i think that ill stay on it too. i got rejected from all my privates and cal fall. call spring? what the heck is that. so i think ill stay on..

DukeEngr93 - we had an overmatriculation of around 50 people in the Class of 2009 and have been working to make space for them as they hit particular classes ever since- this doesn't seem very encouraging since it puts we on the waitlist in a situation where there are not free spaces to fill.

Btw, I'm an international student and I too am curious about the supposed scandal that everyone's talkin about.

kpex - here's the great thing - the Class of 2009 is basically clearing a path so that we'll be overprepared for the "usual" number of students. Think of them as your own person road-wideners.

Regarding the Nifong case... I'm probably not the best person to offered an unbiased perspective, having written about the case from a decidedly non-neutral point of view.

DukEgr93-come to think of it, the preparation that has taken place to cater for a larger number of students sounds kinda cool, and it would still be beneficial to students on the waiting list :)

Is there anything I can do to better my chances of getting in off the waitlist? I was rejected everywhere, but Penn State. I don't have a problem with going to a state school, but I'd really like to go to Duke. I'd really do almost anything to get off this waitlist. HELP!

Send updates?
I'm waitlisted as well. I got accepted at WUSTL but they didn't offer me aid (I'm international), so it'll probably be too expensive.
How does one go about sending updates that won't seem too intrusive? I'm terrible at letter writing. Any suggestions?

NO! I can be the only one on the waitlist, so my chances will be better. Haha just kidding, I hope everything works out for all of us. Good question, anyone have an answer?

Haha fantasticfungi - I'll trade you my Duke acceptance for your Washu acceptance! Oh, how I wish that could be done...

My spot could very possibly become available, so keep your hopes up! I hadn't counted on actually getting in, so I had already made plans for other schools and now I am frantically scrambling to reevaluate everything. WashU is my first choice, but I'm only in waitlist purgatory :(

How many people got waitlist for 2011? I heard that last year 2000 people got waitlist and 120 people got admited. Is it true?

I got waitlisted at Duke, Harvard, Cornell, Brown and Dartmouth (basically all my top schools, but the only one I care about is DUke), honestly I would give anything to go to Duke. I'd really love to know how many people were waitlisted for 2011

Will this statistic be released ?
"how many people were waitlisted for 2011"

do we need to send end of the year hs transcripts and such? or do we just simply... wait.

I think it's a matter of just wait, but if you send other things, you show you're still interested and still doing well, and it might improve your chances.

This being waitlisted at Duke thing is killing me. It looks like I'm going to Penn, but I couldn't make the decision, so if I get into Duke, I seriously need to figure it out. If not, then Penn it is.

Is the waitlist binding?

See post #32.

anybody get the card in the mail yet? i haven't

i got mine yesterday. :/

Hey- PsychedelicSushi -, so what does that card say, if you don't mind filling us in. Might not get mine for another week coz I'm in Africa, though I like to be ready for any surprise conditions for wanting to stay on the waitlist
