GPA: 91.7/100.0 (About a 3.6)
Rank: 16/198
SAT: 620 R/ 550 M/ 690 W
Intended Major/AOI: Physics
Possible Minors: Electrical Engineering/Finance/Computer Science (I'd only pick one)

I have a lot of extra curriculars/awards/that sort of stuff. Too much to list, so I'll just list the most important few:

Debate (Student Congress) (Captain all 4 years)
Concert Senior Band (Trumpet/French Horn) (Section Leader)
Advanced Jazz Band (Trumpet)
Student Government- House System (Think: Harry Potter. Yes, I am the leader of a "House", the Bonilla house)
Varsity Handball Team- Doubles Player

I have a crapton of awards and I love em all so no list.

Anyways, the wait's been killing me. Applied early October, sent in all supplements around November after retaking the SATs. However, they only got my supplements on January 20th, which made my heart sink. Also, SBU rejected one person from my school who has an even higher GPA than me (Although my SATs were higher). I'm kinda nervous since my SOLAR never seems to update.

Should I worry? I did get into UAlbany as a safety, but SBU is definitely at the top of my list.

Anyway, you’ll most certainly get in. My grades are slightly better, but your ECs are the best of the best. And that one person probably had a crappy essay or application.

Haha, thanks, great to be here. I see there’s quite a few Megaman fans here!

Thanks, it’s reassuring to know. I’d like nothing more than to be a seawolf! Went up there around November and the school was awesome, it felt great just being on the campus. I’m anxiously awaiting a reply, but I probably won’t see one for a while if they really just got my supplements.

I neglected to mention that I take every AP class my school offers in my Senior Year (AP US History, AP Physics B, and AP English Literature). Though we aren’t offered an AP Mathematics course, our Calculus teacher is amazing and I’ve done really well in the class, 93 average for the past semester.

Definitely hoping I get in. It’d be awesome to go there =).

Definitely sounds like a plan then! Guess I’ll look into the Computer Science minor :).

In any case, though I still haven’t gotten accepted yet, I will say that I just got my second quarter grades up for my senior year. I went up in nearly every class, my lowest grade being a 92, which is awesome. My 2nd quarter average was about a 95, which is the second highest I’ve gotten since my Junior year, in which I got a 95.9 one quarter.

I’m really happy and my morale is definitely boosted more than ever. I really hope I get in now, I really like SBU. I’m revisiting it this weekend with my parents so they can see the school for themselves and learn why I love it so much :)

I hope I get in. It’d be awesome to meet you in person, BlueProtoman :)

Oh, and you might also want to see if you can double minor; have one be something you legitimately want to explore, and the other be something that overlaps heavily with your major, DEC requirements, or other minor. Your mileage may vary depending on your interests, but for me this will work like a charm; Computer Science major, Business and Digital Arts minor here, but only one required DA course DOESN’T overlap with DEC or Computer Science courses that I want to take. I haven’t analyzed any of the programs in full detail, but I think that these might be good options for you;

Thanks a lot! The name’s Julio Nunez, nice to meet ya the info’s been amazing, definitely influenced me quite a bit!

I am a bit worried, though. I haven’t heard back at all from admissions, even though my app’s been completed since November. Out of 8 people that I know applied there from my school, 3 were rejected, one was accepted, and the other three are still waiting. I’m still waiting, but I haven’t heard anything at all from them. No mid year report. No update, aside from a short email saying they got my supplements in January, despite the fact I sent them two months earlier. No update at all.

It kinda worries me, and I really wanna call SBU admissions to get some sort of update, but I’m afraid that’ll just waste their time. I’m definitely all for waiting, but I’ve already gotten into UAlbany, Fordham, Scranton, St. John’s, Baruch, Hunter, etc. If I get into Stony, I’m DEFINITELY going, but where my info stands right now worries me.

In any case, I’ll hope for the best and maybe I’ll get a reply before the end of February, since we have a lot of the month left, anyway.

You ARE checking SOLAR, right? I found out there before I got my official letter.

Also, no college will ever ignore your application. If you don’t get accepted, you will get a letter of rejection, not the cold shoulder. They don’t process apps in any particular order.

And I wouldn’t bug admissions, if only because Stony Brook’s administration is notoriously slow, bureaucratic, and unfriendly.

Yeah, I have been checking Solar, it’s been practically the same since last October. No new tabs, application is still processing, etc. I practically haven’t gotten so much as an update, except in January, when all I heard was that they received my supplements. That’s out of my control, though, probably mailing hangups or something made it get their late.

I see. I guess my app’s probably gonna go for the April 1st pile, which would seriously suck since it gives me no more than a month to choose one out of my top three schools.

Well, right now, it’s between UAlbany, SBU, and CIty College (Grove School of Engineering), with Baruch as a backup.

I got into UAlbany and Baruch, and I’ll have a decision by City College around 2-3 weeks from now. Still nothing from SBU, though. I know it’s my top choice and all, but it’s ridiculous how I applied so early yet people who applied in January are already getting decisions.

On the bright side, I haven’t been rejected to any of the schools I’ve applied to, not even SBU (yet), so I have hopes of getting accepted.

They don’t seem to check in any particular order. Consider it preparation for Stony’s bureaucracy; that is, administrative issues only seem to be handled when the stars and planets are properly aligned. It’s like a Douglas Adams book in there, supposedly. I’ve even head horror stories of well-earned AP, DEC, or transfer credit not being properly accounted for, so everybody needs to keep up with that.

I applied to Brandeis, Cornell, Fordham, NJIT, Stony Brook, Syracuse and RPI

I’ve only received an acceptance letter from NJIT. What do you guys think?

I think I’ll call just to make sure they indeed have everything. I applied 5 months ago, not hearing a single word after makes me want to get at least some kinda update.

Awesome man, congrats, I saw your thread. And thanks. How were your SATs? Honestly, my Math is kinda suckish, but the SAT certainly doesn’t reflect my actual math skills. I just happen to be mediocre at geometry.
