so today was the first time i visited penn (i’m from california), and the weather wasn’t nearly as bad as i had imagined! my host said today/yesterday was almost as bad as it gets… is this true?

In a word: no.

as bad as it gets in april, maybe...

but in general? it can get pretty nuts!

Um yeah that's definitely not true.

it's so damn abnormally cold right now! this time of year is usually much warmer, but jan-feb on the whole is pretty snowy or cold most of the time

haha propaganda from my host... does it get WAY colder than today/yesterday, just plus snow?

where the hell are you from that you've never seen weather before?

according to weather.com it's 41 degrees at the moment (pretty accurate, I'd say). The winter (Dec through Feb) is usually 20-30's but can get as low as 10's. It has to get below 20 and windy for me to feel cold, but there are some wimps from California who whine when it's colder than 70 :-)

That being said, a girl from my hall freshman year was from the bahamas and wore multiple coats in 75 degree weather

ALSO - it was snowing last night. true story.

yeah, i thought i was one of those wimps. but even in the morning yesterday it wasn't that cold! and the native philadelphian said it was 30..

um, it's april. wait until early february when there's snow and the temperature gets into the teens without the wind chill. Every winter since i've been at Penn (I'm a junior) has been relatively mild for philly winters (I am a native), the one before my freshman year though was pretty bad, consistently in the teens or below 10, and even some days below zero.

Four seasons, the most important part of a Californian's college education.

As bad as it gets is when there's an ice storm and it's like 30 degrees colder than today and the wind is blowing much harder and the cold wet rain goes right thru your clothes and you're stepping in the slush puddles and the cars are splashing you. Or when it's 100 and humid. So no this is not as bad as it gets, not even close, though it was exceptionally cold for April which is usually like in the 50s and on a good day can go up to 70 and be really amazing. OTOH, there are usually no earthquakes or wildfires or hurricanes or tornadoes so unless you go driving in a snowstorm Mother Nature is not likely to kill you in Philly.

ooo seasons
i've heard of those! lol
