I’m also from Miami.

Try buying online or from catalogs from places like L.L. Bean, Lands End, etc.

Also, try looking in Miami at Peter Glenn Ski & Sports Shop. They have plenty of winter gear and a wide selection of shoes & gloves.

Every one keeps talking about good snow boots…

What qualifies boots as good for snow? (i.e. what specifications/qualities do they need?)

Rubber sole. Waterproof. Insulation. High ankle.

[Waterproof and Breathable GORE-TEX® Outerwear - GORE-TEX Products](http://www.gore-tex.com/remote/Satellite/home)

Gore-tex always has a good selection of shoes.

Also, if you think you have the winter blues, buy one of those lamps that helps by mimicking sunlight. Personally, I can’t STAND those february days where you look outside, everything is gray, and there are no leaves on the trees; i bought one, and it seems to be working thus far.

For reference, as I asked the same thing when I was accepted to Mich:

good snow boots: anything BUT uggs. uggs are good for when it is cold and DRY. any form of moisture destroys them

Runner43: Tampa area

North Face is always good.

Argh. I’m freezing in Florida right now! And it’s only 40 degrees outside!

I feel so terrified about the weather in Ithaca now…
