The West and the East

In the last couple of years I have witnessed many of my elder colleagues (all international students) getting accepted at many prestigious colleges, but it seemed to me that all of these colleges were on the East coast or anyway, in the east. Is this just an impression of mine or is it actually easier to be accepted at and get financial aid from such colleges?
I surely hope it is just an impression because I daydream about California or Colorado all day long. Maybe these colleagues of mine simply hadn't applied to other colleges than the ones in the east...

To be more specific, how difficult is it to get a full scholarship at Stanford if I am European? I have a very strong application and everything but my family and I cannot afford to pay more than, say, 1000-2000 dollars a year and this money would probably come from my working the summers.

What are your scores?

Does anyone know if Stanford is “need aware” for int’ls?

I don’t know how much your family earns or what it’s assets are, but you don’t get to decide how much your family can pay. The school looks over your family’s assets/income and decides. So, a school may say that they think your family can pay $5k or $15k or whatever.

The above is from the Stanford website.
