The "What My Kid would NOT do to Get Admitted" Thread

<p>My S refused to give up several “for fun” music projects fall of senior year in favor of more time for college apps and scholarship apps. That caused parent heartburn, but in the end probably not a different outcome. It also helped us understand how much he’d need time for music passions/hobbies in college. </p>

<p>He also refused to use his summer free time to do some prelim essay work required for a College Coach we were considering. Thus we knew the flat-fee services would be a waste. But had he complied we would have had more guidance in our journey and perhaps a different outcome.</p>

<p>this is kinda off topic but, there is a part of me that wished that my parents were as involved in my college application process as you all were… i had to go it alone pretty much…</p>

<p>The best balance is if parents and students are equally involved. In our case we wished son were a little more involved in finding candidate schools. But he really did an awesome job on his many apps and essays (with help review from somebody else)… just not on our preferred timetable. </p>

<p>In your case if parents pay the bills and are supportive of your final choice, then that works too ;)</p>
