I visited a couple of days ago, and as I was jotting down my impressions, it unconsciously morphed into an essay. Any takers? Again, 2013-ers and current students only, please :)

Aww no one?

Well, I don’t want to give the '14ers any ideas… ;p

I’ll read it. I was waitlisted for 2013. I think my Why Brown was pretty good. It’s probably what kept me from being outright rejected.

5000-plus posts on CC. That could be the subject of your essay!

I’m a 2013 Brown student and I’ll read if you PM it to me =D

Oh, sorry about that. I read your post too quickly and misunderstood it… sorry.

It’s not really an essay. If I remember correctly, they reallyyy don’t give you much space to say very much. You’ve got about a paragraph.

^Agreed. Applied to Brown this year and rejected. I think they gave you something like 900 characters or something like that. But I tried to compare Brown’s Open Curriculum to playing notes on my cello. I don’t think they bought that though. :)

I also touched on other things, like an econ/math class that I wanted to take at Brown. I don’t quite remember the name of it … but hey, it’s been 6 months since I touched my Brown essays!!! (Sadly I spent 3 months planning for them, writing and polishing them… :()

Oh noes, my essay’s at like 1800 characters :(. Anyway, I’d still like to show it to you guys so I can cut it down over the next few months.

@pfenix, justbreathe: Willing to read?

Tetrisfan, I might be mistaking the “how did you find out about Brown question” with the “Why Brown question?” I remember that the former question’s character limit was ridiculously low. But still, what Brown gave as the limit for the Why Brown? question was really not enough space.

Errr. Honestly yours is way too long, so there’s not much point in reading it. It’s not really an essay. You don’t even really get a chance for a paragraph. I feel like the question is almost for their information rather than to evaluate you (though I could be wrong). You really don’t get to say much of anything.

Redirect your attention towards the actual main essay and the other mini-question about your interests.

Wait, I thought this question asked about your interests + why Brown? That’s why it’s so long…

I got it down to ~1600 characters (I found that the limit is 1600 characters). You guys willing to read now?

Tetrisfan,

Sure PM it to me. I’ll try to get it to you after Monday (right now I’m taking a break just in case I rip all of my hair out trying to figure out Physics … the AP is on Monday and I’m seriously not ready because I don’t get Physics…)

Also, I commend you for being such a motivated student who’s also really into Brown. Perhaps you’ll be rewarded. :)

Sure thing, I’ll definitely check it out. No homework and no APs, so I have plenty of time to get back to you on it.

I disagree and don’t know what you’re talking about–mine was three full paragraphs and in my opinion was probably a contributing factor in my acceptance.

Brilliant. Will send it out. Thanks guys!

@Kicharo

Perhaps they’ve changed it since the time I applied. I remember for my application it cut me off after a paragraph or so. I really didn’t get to say much.
