On the Commonapp Supplement, that is. Why do they only give one line of space for answering this? Are you supposed to actually just list reasons, or what?

I assume it means it's okay to write a short answer. My son wrote "see Additional Information" in the small space provided and then pasted in an essay of about 150 words.

From what I've heard in the past its ok to just write one line. Something like good education, good location, strong ethnics, strong community, etc. It does not even to be in sentence form. I myself used this approach when I applied ED and got in.

They allow such a small space because they want you to be concise and to the point in describing why exactly you like Haverford. Pasting an essay, like mentioned above, is a risky technique because it doesn't give them the conciseness that they want. If you are doing that, your essay better be good. Personally I stuck with the short line because if they wanted a longer response they would have allowed the space for it...

I agree with dante - if they really wanted a longer response, they would have asked for it. I also kept my response in the one line and just listed what I liked about it - I didn't even put it in sentence form.

Wow. They had that same question 14 years ago. I think they prefer "list form", but if you used more space, I'm pretty sure it will NOT be held against you. HC, afterall, is a Quaker school... details and formalities aren't held higher than substance and fairness.

good luck

hey clewis, indeed, HC has "strong ethnics" but hopefully its ethics are strong too.

Okay that's what I figured, but it's good to hear it from someone else. Thanks
