The "Why medicine" essay question

So since every medical school has this question or some form of it, I am wondering how exactly they evaluate these essays. Are they looking at how articulately you can express your ideas or do they have a serious interest in why you want to be a doctor? I'm sure they've heard it all ex// passion about science, interest in human body, want to help people etc..

So what are they looking for in answering that question?

-thanks

this is a guess, only a guess mind you: they might want to hear something about why YOU actually want to become a doctor

Saying you like science or you want to help people is fine but bring in your own personal experiences. If you like helping people, talk about a community service project you did. If you like science, talk about your research internship at the NIH. In other words, show, don't tell.
