I want to make a generic "why this college" essay but i have no clue what to talk about considering Emory says not to mention size, location, reputation, and yes, the weather. What do the typicall cc'ers say? heheh

lol, tell me about it.
and how about NYU not wanting to read about NYC in their essay...

I had to write one too for Scripps...I wrote about programs, majors, professors I liked, clubs I would like to join, why the college seemed like a match for me.

Yea, I know how you feel. It's hard to write about how much you love a university especially when it's for a safety and you've never visited or contacted them before. Makes me feel all phony and stuff.

picture yourself at x college. what would x college have to offer YOU?

its easy, i talked about the programs at emory that i liked and what i have to offer them and what they would help me with.

...the people at these colleges must have a few screws loose if they think that there are reasons people would ever want to attend besides location and reputation.

Yea, unless you've lived on campus or worked closely with a professor there (which I doubt most people have done), you're usually just looking for the prestiege of the college or its programs.

But colleges use these kinds of questions to make sure that they're not being considered a safety choice, and want to make sure that you have some in-depth information about them.

for emory: talk about how much you love coca-cola

for duke: talk about how much you love tobacco

THATS PRODUCT PLACEMENT

Some colleges care very, very much about the interest that you show. Harvard and schools like that don't because they have such fantastic yields anyway. Colleges out of the very top don't because they don't care that much about yields. State schools don't because they see themselves as viable alternatives to the ivies because of price. The colleges that do care are just out of the top 12 and do not want to be considered safety schools for any of the top 12. Schools like that are Wash U, Tufts, Emory and so on. Showing interest at Emory is critical. Try to visit, try to interview, go to local presentations, and order the dvd tour.

This is where the "Why I want to attend" essay is important. Do some research and find specific names of programs available at the school. For example, if you are applying at Emory in political science, mention the Jimmy Carter center at the school. Go thru the website and mention very specific things about the college. The essay can not be totally generic.

Anyway, a student would have to have a few screws loose to only want to attend a college based on reputation.

I want to make a generic "why this college" essay

hahahahaha...um..........really? A generic one because......

seriously, read their little brocures, and spew their PR right back at 'em.

alrighty i guess they leave me no choice
