the worst PSAT score on CC

so I got a 145 on my PSAT score and I'm a junior....I think i'm pretty much screwed, right?? I got a 35 on critical reading, 62 on math, and 48 on writting. (yes, i'm asian.) I've only been in the US for 3 years....and the critical reading definitely killed me....I dont' know how I can get my CR up to at least a 550 in may when I take my frist SAT. and I'm trying to get a 800 on math, if not, 750. do u guys have any methods when it comes to memorizing SAT vocabularies....for me it's a pain in the ass to study and memorize 10385719475920184839274194020 vocabularies!!!!!! but I need to get my grades up !!!

ps. did anyone get below a 145 on their PSAT.....I'll be ur new best friend!

I did pretty bad (close to yours) also. I totally skipped the writing portion because I THOUGHT the colleges I wanted to go to did not care about writing.
O well, it's only the PSAT, I don't know about most people on this site, but I just can't take a practice test seriously.

umm...rather than trying to memorize vocabulary(not vocabularies*) just try to read more and look up the words you dont know. And consider approaching an English teacher for assistance. And no I didnt get below 145 but I know people at my school who got lower(well, as sophomores) and they have been in America their whole lives so don't fret.

I'm pretty sure colleges will understand this and consider your scores in that light.

Oh, you're not the worst. I got 132 on my PSAT in my sophomore year. And I think that was my third year living in the US too...

NorthWestLover are u taking it again ur junior year?

dont worry- the PSAT doesnt count. and plus it was at the beginning of the school yr when ppl were still bogged from summer. Just go over ur mistakes and make vocab flashcards.

While I may not be foreign, I got a 145 on the PSATs too. And I also know a bunch of people who had the same score and some who got 130s. Granted most people got in the 170-180 range but I also took the SATs in January, just got my results back with an 8 on my essay (yay) but scores of 480-480-540!!

That comes from not really studying enough and I'm sure my CR and Math scores can skyrocket after the prep classes in March and a lot of real reading. And I'll most certainly be taking the test again come May!

I think sentences with the vocabulary in context as well as the definition is a lot more helpful than just the definition.

A girl in my grade got a 92!

I got a 44 on writing freshman year, but have a 760 on the SAT W, so it's definitely improveable.

omg! do not worry! they'll understand, and you still have a year and a half to fix this score (which is about half the time you've been in the us)...really, i know people in AP english (they cheat though) who got like 120's, etc, and really good scores on math.

achang, for CR, just memorise all the vocabs you can find.
When i asked for advice to increase my 400-soemthing score on cc, people were suggesting, read these types of books, read magazines, read read read, memorsing vocabs aren't important.

NO THEY WERE ALL WRONG!
I did the above and the 2nd time I took the SAT, the score improved by like 20 points. wow. cool. 20.
I then took on my own approach and made like 500 flashcards with complex vocabs on it. I memorized like 20 each time, before bed, in the bathroom, in the bus, even at my friends' houses (they didnt care jack about the SATs but they thought it was kinda fun in a lame way and they did support me and made funny sentences using the words - which I did remember during the test day). And just revised them over and over again.
I didn't even memorise 500 - maybe like 250-300. And my score jumped over 250 points on my third try.
Now people may say, oh I may just be strong in the reading section; memorizing vocabs aren't for everyone.

But if you're getting 35 on CR, no offence but I dont think you are strong in any section of the CR. Otherwise, you would've gotten atleast 45. So my advice is to just memorize all the vocabs, and see if you improve from there. If you dont, you can try the 'read read read' advice that I got. good luck :)

okay, as far as vocab goes, study roots, prefixs, suffixs, etc

that can help alot in learning and figuring out words

http://www.msu.edu/~defores1/gre/roots/gre_rts_afx1.htm

dude chill out, i got 45 on my psat CR. I am a senior now, and i got admitted to BC EA. And i am here for 8 eight years already.

search google for some SAT vocabulary .pdf's. They have a huge list of SAT vocab words, and even if those words aren't on the SAT the roots, prefixs and suffixs will help with other words. It improved my SAT CR score by 100 points in one sitting.

I got a 49 on the CR section. :D

Overall was 171. Thank god for the math and writing section!

I got a 43 on the math section, but i didnt take geometry...so i blame that...but i got a 160 :-

194......76 W 64 CR 54M.............thank god for writing

Too bad a lot of schools aren't looking at writing yet.
