Theater/acting rejections

I never meant to portray StrangeBro as pompous - I hope you know that, StrangeBro! I just wanted to broaden perspective a bit on rejections. I love the attitude of “it’s their loss.” I think sometimes how you word things can LOOK like you also think “they don’t know what they’re doing” and that bothered me a little bit. Lots of people read these threads and never post; my hope was that they can continue to get the big picture.

Venting is great. And motivation from rejection can be very strong. My personal feeling is that it runs a little too close to bitterness for my taste. I’m hoping when StrangeBro and all of these other kids are feeling great about their accomplishments in the future they’re remembering the wonderfully supportive teachers they DID have instead of the people who rejected them in a 5-minute audition.

I know this is a rough time - and in a lot of ways being PO’d and making jokes is a lot healthier than being down on yourself and depressed. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

My best wishes to everyone this year!

Haha, no hard feelings, EmmyBet. If I didn’t have my mind made up about Chapman I’d definitely be a little more bitter about it, but right now I know that I’m going to do fine and I’m happy where I’ve ended up. Just want to say that SDonCC and Gwen and the rest read it right-- just getting back on the horse. :)

Rejected from U of Arizona (both musical theater & acting) on Thursday

How did Arizona let you no ? I called Thursday they said letters would go out next week?

Arizona let me know via email that they were not considering me for acceptance-- which I found amusingly redundant, as I didn’t show up for my audition (due to a combination of factors, but mostly I was ill and didn’t feel like a seven-hour drive that morning).

I received a letter in the mail last Thursday (I live in Tucson)

Still no news from TCU Theatre Dept? My S auditioned at the school on 2/18. Has anyone heard what their notification date is? He was accepted to TCU back in Nov. Also, does that audition determine theatre scholarships? Thx & break a leg to everyone!!

TCU email Mr.Parker the department does do the scholarship money but, it is not a large amount.

D just got her rejection e-mail from Mason Gross. She didn’t get any callbacks so it was no surprise. She already made her college decision and she’s happy. She said the e-mail was very nice though.

Has anyone who made it to callbacks heard from DePaul? They said they notify mid-March… Also, does anyone know what’s going on with Rutgers? Did they have their callback weekend – or have they changed their process?

MomtoC - Mason Gross/Rutgers held on-campus call-backs the first weekend in March. My son was not invited, and so his rejection e-mail was no surprise. I am surprised that you have heard nothing from them.

MomtoC…My D received a call back at her Depaul auditions but she still hasn’t heard back from them. One minute I heard that they send letters and that they should arrive some time this week and now I am hearing that notifications will go out next week via Campus Connect.

where did you hear that about campus connect, ready4march?

We called the office and were told that as well about DePaul. Early next week we will get a message saying to check our application status and the decision will be up.

I don’t know what to think then because admissions told me letters have already been mailed!

I was rejected from Purchase. Not going to lie, I was getting my hopes up because I received my rejection about 1 and a half-2 weeks after everyone else did. :(

I’m so sorry, AthenaL. It seems as if they may have been on the verge of accepting you (because of the delayed response.) I hope you will be getting some good news soon! We are rooting for you!

We were hoping, too. Athena. Good luck with everything else!!

I saw on another thread that you got waitlisted for MMC - that’s great! A waitlist is a huge accomplishment: it means you definitely have what it takes. People do get in from waitlists, so there is hope from that!

Thanks! I’m trying not to read too much into things. I know hundreds apply for a limited number of spots. I am beginning to realize, its not just about how talented you are. Its also about how you market yourself! I’m definitely applying to larger amount of schools next year, so hopefully it will all work out in the end.
