Theater/acting rejections

Marisa, try not to let it get you down. I’ve seen you have a great acceptance in hand. My D got 4 rejections in one day last year, and it was rough. I know she hasn’t forgotten it, but a year later she is doing great things, and that really puts it in perspective. My best wishes to you, and to all of these kids during these hard days.

I got a letter yesterday - I called and they said nothing is online only via snail mail. I’ll cross my fingers for him – this is a gross process.

I got a rejection letter from SMU Meadows School about 2 weeks ago. For Rutgers/Mason Gross, I auditioned at Chicago Unifieds and I just got an email on Friday asking me to come out for a callback audition. I was confused because the website said callback weekend was earlier in March. Anyone know anything about callbacks at Rutgers this late in the process?

Did anyone hear from Emerson MT department or American University

American U letters went out this past week. They should be “in the mail.” Several people on the MT forum have received their letters.

@WillShake I did hear of another person that got the same email. So, no telling what is going on with Mason Gross.

jojobeans, Emerson’s acting decisions were posted on the Stagedoor portal on Wednesday, March 15th. Not sure about MT but check the portal!

Emerson’s MT decisions are all on the website/portal. American sent emails to accepted students last week saying the letters were in the mail.

Just got rejected from Emerson BFA Acting (not really a surprise, considering my audition) and TCU’s BFA (where I felt I did really well, but statistically it was still overwhelmingly unlikely).

So that means the final tally is:
University of Arizona-- Academic acceptance, program rejection
Chapman University-- Accepted and attending!
Coastal Carolina University-- Rejected on audition, no callback
DePaul University-- Rejected on audition, no callback
Emerson College-- Rejected
Point Park University-- Rejected on audition
Southern Utah University-- Accepted
Texas Christian University-- Accepted academically, not admitted to BFA Acting
Texas State University-- Accepted academically, not admitted to BFA MT

Once again, I’ve got to take my hat off to everybody on this board who’s making it into programs like NYU and Carnegie Mellon, as well as some of those I listed above that didn’t accept me. It really does go to show how difficult the process is.

StrangeBro - I feel that! five rejections here and counting – we all just have to be glad we have somewhere to go! I’m going to Hartt (and thrilled) and Chapman is a great school, I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful experience! Congrats on that!!

Rejection just keeps coming. Rejected from pace - all theater programs. Does anyone know if this cancels out my academic acceptance? Or can I change my major to like undecided?

@geofio- You should call the admissions office and tell them you would like to be considered for another major. You might want to hurry on that.

My D was accepted into the university ! with a substantial amount of financial aid but rejected from the MT Program…WOW… if you were accepted ! you can go in undecided !

Rejections: all BFA Acting
Juilliard- no callback
Depaul- callback, then rejection letter last weekend
UNSCA- Rejection letter last weekend
Ithaca- I saw here that letters already went out and didn’t have one so I called and she told me I was rejected. Still haven’t gotten any letter. At the audition she asked me where i was auditioning and said “Look at Ithaca and see what we are about, you are going to have some decisions to make” and then got a rejection, so that was cool.
Rutgers- got an email yesterday I was waitlisted. Got on on-site callback but no invitation anywhere.

Still haven’t heard from UMinn, which I know I didn’t get calledback so why don’t they just send out the dang letter?? Or Pace… which is weird? I auditioned in late Feb.

I got accepted to Stella Adler Conservatory in LA and NY, Atlantic Acting School, and American Academy of Dramatic Art but can’t afford them whatsoever as they don’t provide aid (well AADA does, but it’s 25 grand a year plus living in NY which is another 15, and they offer limited aid, so I can’t go). So I have nowhere to be next year! That’s okay I was already taking a year off anyways. I’ll figure something out. You have not seen the last of me choosy BFA programs!!

If you applied to Pace BFA; after audition weekend you would have received an email for a phone interview and decisions were made after the phone interview. Based on what Grant told my son; if you didn’t get the email you didn’t move on further in the process.

Thanks kcdunlap. I figured I wasn’t moving forward in the process, but I find it odd and rather heartless of these schools to not make it clear that if you didn’t get xy and z you aren’t being considered for admission, or at least quickly send out rejection letters if they have no interest in you.

Hi, I’m a new member, but have been reading posts on here for a while.
I have been accepted and rejected from several schools here’s the list over all
Depaul: Audition for BFA acting in January, Called back and rejection letter recieved on March 16
Evansville: Rejected from BFA acting
Elon: BFA acting waitlist
Belmont: BFA acting acceptance
Butler: BA performance acceptane

I hope this can help some people out, congrats to all the people who got into programs and for people who didnt, keep going and :). I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
Peace!

Our long saga is coming to a close, and since rejection was the major theme for most of it, I will recount it here… (for reasons of maximizing privacy, I will refer to my kid as “K” without reference to gender…)

We focused on BFA acting programs after K did the Tisch summer program. Indeed, Tisch became a “dream school” and K applied ED1 there.

A key challenge for us: K is < 3 gpa with bad SAT math score, which pretty much takes NYU out of the picture on numbers alone. But I thought it might be worth it to give it a try since they knew K from summer, and things went very well for K then.

Knowing that a rejection was likely I encouraged an early audition at UArts, thinking it might be a more likely acceptance. The strategy didn’t work. By December 15th or so, two rejections were in hand. This took a fair amount of energy out of K but I pressed to get other applications and audition reservations done by Jan. 1.

K is northeast focused, and wanted to try for top-end programs - a risky approach to be sure. Thus, even though we had a nice visit at Marymount Manhattan, K did not like the vibe and would not apply there…

Thus, auditions and rejections from: Juilliard, Purchase, BU, CMU, Emerson…

But wait listed at Syracuse BFA, which provided a bit of affirmation for K, though it is not clear at this point if we will stay on that wait list or not (would love to hear from anyone with experience with Syracuse in this regard!).

The non-BFA list included: Eugene Lang (wait listed) and Purchase BA Theater and Performance (wait listed).

It was not until the last two schools responded that some much better news came along, acceptances at Hampshire College and Sarah Lawrence…

Ironically, after all the work and heart-ache of the audition process, K has come around to the understanding that a BA is a better option. K is very much involved in film making and writing. Wants to be somewhere where these can be done alongside acting. So, the two acceptances, at the end of the day, turn out to be the best options. In any event, it’s nice to have a choice.

Good luck to everyone else out there. Congratulations on the wonderful acceptances. Thank you all for the insight and wisdom offered on these boards over the past months. And remember: what looks like rejection at one point, might turn out to be an opening to a better path later on…

Northdad - congratulations on Hampshire and Sarah Lawrence; both are very desirable liberal arts colleges. My son was rejected from most places, but accepted at UArts with a nice Artist Grant. Good luck!

Acceptances: Point Park acting, PCPA a strong conservatory program in Northern Cali. Area, LIPA Acting in Liverpool. BFA wig and makeup UNCSA and Montclair with a minor in M.T. Waitlisted UofA M.T and Acting and I have one more audition at Guildhall in London this May. Rejected from the usual big schools. Oh well at least I have choices across the board!
