Theater and Dance

Could anyone talk a little about these departments at Wake Forest? Have you taken a class? Been in a show? If not, have you seen a show? What did you think of the quality of the production?

My son wants to double major in Theater and History with the goal of someday writing for stage, tv or film. We are encouraging him to look at BA programs at LACs and wait until graduate school if he wants to do some sort of MFA. That said, he still wants a school with a vibrant arts community.

Do you think Wake Forest would fit the bill?

I am not involved in theatre or dance myself, but my roommates since freshman year have always been involved in theatre productions. From what I hear from them, the department in fantastic. The professors are dedicated and lovely people. The community is close on campus and your son will no doubt make numerous friends while he is there. The productions themselves (almost all of which I have seen) are always fantastic. Although the theatre department may not have a big name, every single person is committed, and in the end, that is all that matters. It is also important to note that your son does not have to major in theatre to be involved in the shows; I know that at least some people are cast in shows and are only theatre minors.

I can also say that the history department is phenomenal. I am a History double major myself. Please message me if you have nay more questions.

Hi!

I did three years of theatre in high school. I wasn’t involved in the theatre department at Wake but I took Intro as my art requirement. It was fun and wasn’t very difficult. My professor was very knowledgeable and was very involved with our entire class, even though many of us were not majors or minors. I have also been to several productions and they were all pretty good. They aren’t expensive to attend as a student, which is really nice.

We also have an improv troupe, the Lilting Banshees.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback.
