so i applied to CAS as a journalism major and i know that it is a required double major major (ha) and i would most likely choose political science as my second.
however, is there a theatre minor (i don't think there is a major) for CAS students?
i know there is an "applied theatre" cross-school minor, but is that different than "theatre" strictly speaking? if so, how? :)
thanks for the amazing CC help!!!!!!

**this is all considering that i get in first ;)

I don’t know if this answer helps you…but the “Forums” at NYU.edu are a great place for a lot of questions like yours. Seems like everything that CAN be asked, HAS been asked. This particular answer came from the “Schools…Tisch” forum:

Tisch offers minors in producing, performance studies, documentary, applied theater, art and public policy, cinema studies and the business of entertainment media and technology (in collaboration with Stern and Steinhardt).

None of the conservatory programs within the Tisch School offer minors. Tisch does make a number of classes available to non-majors through the Open Arts curriculum: http://specialprograms.tisch.n…age/openClasses.html

I applied to Stern for Marketing. I thinking of either double majoring (might be too much) or minoring in math. I might do the producing minor too; would be musical theater if they had it as a minor. It’s a pretty broad spectrum.

My daughter would just kill to be able to minor in musical theatre. She decided the odds were too low of getting in (Steinhardt, not Tisch). She opted for a different major, wanting NYU even more than she wanted a particular major…knowing she could at least minor in music.

@R124687 i know EXACTLY how your daughter feels!!! i would ADORE having a musical theatre minor, while still having my CAS majors oh, well, i could always try transfer if i really wanted to.
what school/major does she want?!

Ugal…she applied to CAS instead, because she has several interests there. But music and theatre are both her REAL passion…probably THE reason she wants NYU more than anything else (she applied last minute to Columbia too…but it’s a HUGE reach due to her GPA/rank-long story…she WAS straight As, back to 4.9W right now…but one bad semester in the middle REALLY screwed her).

I thought the same thing as you about possibly trying to transfer. A lot of things can change in just one year. Most kids DO change majors at LEAST once in their college. But it’s tough when it’s a different school within the college, tougher still if you have an audition involved.

This is how our thinking went…By applying to CAS, then you (hopefully) get into NYU. Then maybe audition next year to Steinhardt. At least you’re in, and with nothing to lose by auditioning for a transer.

BUT…if one first applied to Steinhardt (or Tisch), and was rejected, and you can’t go to NYU at all.

I know you’re still waiting/hoping…as we are…that an acceptance with an honors scholarship is still in the pipeline. I think I saw you post over on the NYU forums. Looked like your question anyway. Geesh, hard to remain anonymous in this cyber world, isn’t it? Luck to ya.

so now that NYU is at the top of my list at the moment (!!!), i’m strongly considering this minor.
but question: which inter-school minor (applied theater or performance studies) is better for the actual ACTING part of it, not so much the theory/history behind theater, even though both obviously cover that.
and not for theater education either.
