Theater at Davidson

Could anyone talk a little about this department at Davidson? Have you taken a class? Been in a show? If not, have you seen a show? What did you think of the quality of the production?

My son wants to double major in Theater and History with the goal of someday writing for stage, tv or film. We are encouraging him to look at BA programs at LACs and wait until graduate school if he wants to do some sort of MFA. That said, he still wants a school with a vibrant arts community.

Do you think Davidson would fit the bill?

Davidson has a surprisingly great theatre program for a school of our size. The Royal Shakespeare Company had a 3 year residency at the college from 2005-2008 and our Duke Family Performance Hall has to ability to stage any broadway show but Phantom.

There’s normally 2-3 major performances a year with a slew of other smaller shows throughout the year. You can get a good feel for the performances and community by checking out the theatre facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/davidsoncollegetheatre</a>

It’s pretty hard to double major here, although it is doable. A major/minor combination is more common. Regardless, I have no doubt that he’d find our arts programs vibrant. Come out and visit a show if you can!
