Can anyone comment on the theater program at Lawrence? It showed up in Princeton Review as one of the top 20 college theater programs in the country, but I can't seem to find out much more about it. Daughter is a good student (National Merit Semi-Finalist) who is also interested in pursuing directing/technical theater, probably as a minor. How easy is it to bridge between the theater program and the more traditional academic programs at Lawrence? Also, how are the Spanish and Chemistry Departments at Lawrence (her other current academic interests)?

I can't speak directly to the theater program (D is a sophomore in the conservatory and has connections through muscial theater which she reports is good) but I can tell you the Lawrence is very, very good at accomodating and encouraging double majors. In addition, they are very strong in basic sciences.

I'm sure you've already perused the "prospective student" information for each major and the webpages. For Chemistry and Spanish -- both look good with emphasis on study abroad and immersion opportunities for Spanish and strong faculty and research opportunities in Chemistry.

D loves Lawrence as do her father and I -- it's a wonderful undergraduate institution. Best of luck as your daughter as she searches for the right college.
