Congratulations to everyone! It’s wonderful to start seeing the good results roll in. Well done!

Last year this thread was very helpful if non-auditioned and/or BA acceptances were listed, too.

So - should we list non-auditioned and BA theater programs in addition to auditioned BFAs?

It’s up to the group, but we did find it very helpful when the kids were making their decisions to understand the full palette of choices each one had. It also helped the ones coming up to see what non-auditioned schools people were interested in as companions to the auditioned ones, and where they were able to be accepted academically. That’s just my opinion. Also, there are some really great BA theatre programs that I think deserve to be on this list - if kids here are applying and getting accepted to great non-auditioned programs, we should be cheering, and also keeping those schools in the public eye. I’ll venture to say that none of these kids is applying to a “lousy” theatre school, even if it’s a non-auditioned safety!

Okay, I will add my daughter’s non-auditioned acceptance. I agree that there are a lot of great non-auditioned programs. My daughter went into the process thinking she would apply to only auditioned programs, but after research and thought she added several BA non-auditioned programs to her list.

I’m EXTREMELY excited to announce that I’ve been accepted to my number one choice, Appalachian State. I’m also still in love with the program at Greensboro College. I have a HUGE decision to make now.

Congrats on all the acceptances. I see a lot of acceptances for the same schools. I am curious about how big these class are expected to be for example at NYU/Tisch or Coastal Carolina

Wesley, only a few schools have EA or ED for acting-- that’s part of what you see. But I only see one Coastal Carolina acceptance above. NYU takes a huge class-- 400 including MT and design/production, from what we were told at the audition. They break it up into studios so as not to lose the intimacy. And all schools (except CMU!) take more students than they need because they don’t expect everyone who’s accepted to attend.

Wesley - CCU aims for a class of 10 MT, 10 Acting, 8 Physical Theatre and 10 Tech. They make a few early offers from the fall auditions. They also keep some people from the fall auditions in the “pool” for consideration.

There is a thread where we’ve listed our perception of the freshman theatre classes and how many are accepted to get that yield:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/653553-size-freshman-acting-class.html

This of course changes from year to year, but it does help put things into perspective.

As for timing, all schools do things differently. Many schools have several audition days, spread from the fall through the spring. Some make the decisions only at the end, and some choose kids steadily all through the year. Some require an EA or ED application in order to get a decision before spring.

It’s nice to get answers earlier in the process, especially if it provides you with a safety or even a top choice acceptance early in the game. A rejection or deferral can also be useful to motivate you (sometimes)! Very often the students here end up considering their options all the way until the very end of the season (including dealing with waitlists), just like any other college applicants.

All schools are different - just look for the info or ask to see what their policies are.

I’m not sure about the proper protocol, but I’m pleased to announce that my son has been accepted into the Acting B.F.A. program at UArts, as well as to Columbia College Chicago (his non-audition safety). He was not called back at his DePaul audition, and so he knows that he will be rejected there.
